but whatever you say how many players has moyes brought through over the last 10 years, its ok giving them time etc etc, but his record with young players is pretty abysmal

    -----------------

    One more time mate.

The reason so few if our prospects come through is because we don't have the finances to consistently bring in top class youth. We have to bring in players that Moyes sees something in, but with the best will and training in the world, they'll only be as good as they will be. To be a top level player, it takes mental toughness and that's down to the players, Moyes can only do so much. He's shows faith in them and it's up to them to take the next step, the less you spend the less often that happens. You get lucky on occasion and one comes through the academy, but you can't rely on that to fill your teams these days, one city doesn't provide that much talent, never mind one shared by two clubs, us having been the less attractive option for far too long.

I just want to add one more thing, and forgive the pun, but Stones had the stones to decline the overtures of seemingly bigger clubs who would have kisses his **** to get their hands on him in favour of a club with a manager that has been proven to take very little **** and suffers no fools. This is just my opinion but I'd take a player like Stones, who chose to play under a manager who will push him and give him little leeway over a player like Balotelli, who has had his **** kissed all his life and bites the hand that feeds him.

Stones has stones, the first piece in the mental puzzle that takes a player to the next level.

... rodwell totally bombed out and barkley isnt setting the world on fire.

    -----------------

Rodwell didn't "bomb out".  He was injury prone and that stunted his development a bit.  Selling him for a cool 12m definitely helped the clubs finances and allowed Moyes to make some moves over the summer.

I haven't actually been watching him, but Barkley is apparently doing quite well on his loan spell with Leeds.  He is still young... give him time.

Finally, you are blatantly ignoring one player who has come through the academy and progressed well under Moyes.. Victor Anichebe!  The lad played fantastic today!

Honestly, would you people rather have us playing an all youthful side?  You only have to look down the road to Liverpool to see the young lineup Rogers keeps putting out... and they have been extremely inconsistent this season!  And Liverpool is playing EXPENSIVE youngsters.. 20m Joe Allen and 18m Jordan Henderson.  We don't go out and buy young players that expensive.. we just don't have the money like the red_shite do.

Moyes is doing brilliant with the finances he has available.  We have the best manager in English football at the helm of our club, so when you punters think you can do a better job I can't help but find it amusing.

i didnt say moyes isnt doing a good job im saying his record at bringing youngsters through is poor, 17/18 year olds can play in the prem and are capable yet moyes wont give any of our youngsters a decent run in the side. even if they come in and do well for a game or 2 and im not blatantly ignoring anichebe, theres not been a lot coming through in 10 years.and moyes just doesnt trust or have faith in young players

I understand what you're saying.. but Moyes knows if a youngster is ready for the Premiership or not.  Jack Rodwell was getting regular appearances in the first team when he was only 18, so Moyes is not opposed to playing a young lad if he sees that the quality is there.

Also, two of the youngest goal scorers in Premiership history were Everton players under the David Moyes era.  Both Wayne Rooney and James Vaughan scored Premier League goals in an Everton shirt when they were only 16 years old!  I'd say that definitely shows some trust in our youth academy players.

totally agree, look at luke shaw, plying his trade in a struggling southampton side and getting rave reviews. ben davies at swansea, had he played a game for them before? comes in and doing a cracking job. what is the point of having these youngsters if they not going to play? the only way they gonna get pl experience is if they play pl games

Are any of these players we let go plying their trade in teams above us? You know, the direction we're aiming. When Moyes leaves and we're back to staving of relegation, our new manager will gladly give these average players a shot in the first team. That is, until they leave because our ambitions differ.

Southampton played Luke Shaw against us, a 17 year old full back.....and he embarrassed Naismith.....

I'm not saying we should be playing him regularily, but can't see why we couldn't have played him yesterday, as Villa are a very young team....

Shaw had been with Southampton long enough to know his team mates and the team dynamic, not to mention the fact he's an ex blue. It's always a good idea to let a player loose on a team that said he wasn't good enough. You also have to take into account the fact that Southampton had a brand new manager, he could take that risk without worrying about the consequences, if we hammered them it would have been expected.
