Everton, expectation and... perspective

It seems there are few clubs that can make such a situation, i.e one that most fans would have been pretty happy with ahead of the window... feel like such a god awful bag of spanners in the aftermath.

Cast your mind back to before the window had opened... talk of Fellaini leaving was rife... as was talk of Baines, who to be fair has had the spotlight on him for a number of windows now but such has been his play of late you wouldn't be surprised if a CL playing club elected to turn rumour into firm intent.

And then there is Moyes... a man who plots and plans with every penny... panic purchases are simply not something he does... when he has money... and of course, he doesn't have any, or if he does its an Ofo sized couple of mill (along with six months of Co-op current account interest) from the last window...

If we knew then what we know now.... that we have over £10 million in the coffers to spend summer... that we'd keep all of our players... and with a squad that is ageing in places, and very much at right back... we'd pick up one of England's best young prospects... then most people would have been more than happy. Especially when you consider that we came close to signing, agreed a fee, player was purring about the move in the press, a top prospect and Dutch international only for it to fall through on medical grounds.

Its amazing what money can do.... the moment we saw that we had some things changed... we all know January isn't the best of times to buy players... (especially where cups are involved)... but this in now, a point off forth....and fuck_me if Everton hasn't got some money....some real MONEY!!!... and some of us got a bit carried away, the rest got a lot carried away.

The Negredo bid just seemed to amplify the disappointment of losing out on Fer. In the cold light of day, it would have been a lot of money for someone who has never played in the premiership, who has never played outside his home country of Spain, and who would have little resale value (28 in the summer). The chances are, all things considered, that this transfer deadline day attempt would not have equated to the results we expect from Moyes spending 10 million had it have come off.

And there we have it, abject disappointment. And for what... finding out we had much more money than we thought and for having the strength of our convictions not to spend it on a man with a wonky knee. And worse, failing with a deadline day bid that we could not, under any circumstances, regard as anything other than a long shot luxury? And even then, a bid that were we not a point off 4th we more than likely wouldn't have even attempted.

Just another Everton transfer window then... they'll be better and worse ones ahead than this.

Iam quite glad we didn't cave in and pay 8.6 for someone who may well have been in the physio's waiting room the entire time. Everton did what they should and pushed for the money based on appearences, etc, so it fell through, I am not upset. Not having plan B was a bit disappointing, BUT we did get a RB, which is useful buiness, and a player who is highly rated by fans of that team, so looking forward to seeing how that turns out. The important thing, as you point out, was that we never lost any key players at all. That is more important to me.

No its not the end of the world....and having mirallas back now is better than any new signing, as we know he'll have an immediate impact in our performances (if he can stay fit)......

just abit disappointed we didn't bring in a midfielder......Neville is horrendous, and Osman can't be expected to play every game.....and Gibson is gonna be constantly injured......obviously Moyes had wanted Fer, just a shame he didn't have a second target ready that would have been just as good a signing in Moyes' eyes.....

The media also want someone to point the finger at after the window... maybe a club who didn't do all that well for some reason.... or a signing that shows football in a bad light... or just something unusual.... if Beckham and Balotelli didn't supply them with that....at least Peter Odemwingie had stepped forward to ensure that Everton's lack of luck should get too much of a mention.

    Worra tit!

Its a forum...you are allowed to dick about a bit... and I'm not claiming to be immune to the twitter/sky news induced mania that is transfer deadline day either.
