Phil Neville - The Big Debate...

There are a lot of people who don't want him in the side, citing reasons such as a lack of mobility, passing the ball backwards and his tendency to give away free kicks in dangerous areas.

There are others that say that he does what Moyes asks of him, breaks up play, gives it simple and that the stats support his inclusion.

He really is the marmite of Everton players.

Truth be told, he hasn't been a mainstay in the side for the past two seasons. He started 24 premier league games last year and 9 so far this year.  The games he's played in this year W 5 D 3 L 1.  Statistics do not show a side that suffers from his inclusion.

For me, I'm not a big fan.  Statistics can be quoted to support his inclusion, but then we're talking about a team that has lost only 3 times in 32. We are a good team. Much better than we have been in the past.  Lacking that bit of creativity at times to turn draws into wins.  For me, the lack of creativity comes from the middle of the park. I'd like to see Fellaini drop deeper to contribute to build up play more.  When Gibson is fit he is very creative.  The issue is that when Neville appears nowadays he is filling in for the likes of Gibson who has turned out to be a gem of a player. So, when Neville comes in, there is a direct comparison perhaps between him and more creative players. Probably unfair, as he isn't nor has he ever been a creative sort (he's a spoiler and a leader).  I guess what people are looking for is the next step up, the player who will not only break up play but create.  That he is not.

So, stats indicate a useful player, but a lot of people will see the faults of not creating, and for me not participating effectively when we're attacking.  Stats aren't always right as the RS will tell you having been landed with Henderson.

This mate, its not Neville's fault we lack creativity when people are injured, he is filling in until the squad is fit. We don;t have a lot of moeny, so don;t have the luxury to pay big wages to a back up player that can come in when people fall by the wayside for a few games for one reason or another....

he has been carried by a good team -
he will be shown up even more against the top sides -
in the first half he missed the games against Man City , Chelsea and Arsenal for some reason -
he ads no value - he belongs on the bench especially if Coleman is fit -
personal opinion : he is the worst midfield player in the PL - the longer we have to carry him the heavier he will get

To be fair Neville has been pretty consistent the last couple of seasons but there is no way he should be a regular in the first team. The best thing you can say is that he does a job at right back or def.mid.His value to the side now is his experience and professionalism, not his football ability.I wander how many prem teams would take him?
