Home field advantage?

    Is there any advantage at all to home field in football?  Compared to other sports where there are certain sporting advantages, is there really any to football?  Is it just crowd noise and being on a different pitch? Are pitches different sizes?  If they are, then that would be a good reason.

    The pitches are different sizes plus the lower leagues pitches arnt in as good a condition as a premier league pitch, so there players are more use to the bobbly muddy pitch, they also say the changing rooms have a part to play (the away ones usually being smaller, and the lower leagues are basically a shed, not good if your a pamperd millionare lol) but as far as home advantage for sheer atmosphere I would say it would be more intimidating playing at Old Trafford than playing in a smaller stadium where we might have only a few thousand less fans

    Tucky... I've been to a few sporting events in the US... and the fans generally sit mixed together with a healthy amount of banter...

    In UK the away fans are generally sat in the shabbiest stand... and away team have to contend with uncomfortable dressing rooms... then... there's the atmosphere... which you won't really get an idea of until you go the game... a hostile home crowd can really make a difference with the abuse the opposition receive and the encouragement the home team gets...

    That's another thing I don't understand. Why can't you all just sit wherever? I understand there is a designated away section, but it seems like people frown upon sitting with the other teams fans. Here, in america, I have to deal with fans of other teams near me or when I travel and I'm an away fan. There's definitely banter going on among us and other fans, but that's part of it. Will another team's fans seriously cut ya or something?

    We used to have bad crowd troubles, and although its better there are a few grounds where you wouldn't feel safe. Away fans wouldn't want to sit in the Gwladys street for instance.

    mate i'd love for all the fans to integrate, then when the referee is being so obviously biased against us, they are singing and cheering and rubbing my nose in it, i can go all tasmanian devil on them.
