What I saw from him was a nervous kid, didn't fancy a shot and didn't want to lose the ball but wanted to impress by beating players of which he failed everytime, I think his introduction ended our hope of getting another.

I think he needs more game time for us to show what he can really do, I see the potential but you can't write him off after fifteen mins

    Tend to agree.

Needs to go back out on loan to learn the game.

    Keep ball,simple ball.

    Not rocket science.

Based on watching him on loan and in his previous competitive matches for the blues...

As I said, Leon proved everyone wrong after loan spells at Carlisle and Derby which gave him the big match day winning mentality which the youth don't experience in the reserves.

Game time is key but I can't see him getting any with Moyes at the moment.

he's definately NOT the gonna be the superstar that everybody first thought he was going to be.  everyone was saying he is gonna be better than rooney.  even utd and chelsea were reportedly trying to sign him already.  but he's proved he's not gonna be in the same league as the wayne rooneys of this world.

players of rooneys caliber show no fear.  rooney banged in a beauty on his debut vs arsenal and a hatrick in his champions league debut.  messi scored a wonderful goal on his barca debut.  barkely , against chelsea looked a nervous wreck.  that doesn't happen to superstars.  even jack rodwell showed no fear when he 1st started playing for everton and he is no superstar.  so based on what i've seen barkley, at best , will be as good as rodwell and thats it

When he starts to pass the ball more, he will eventually learn when to take on players. And I believe that will happen, he is maturing. A real toffee in the making, come on Barkley, believe in yourself and the team! COYB.

everyone's expecting him to be another wayne rooney......its not gonna happen

everyone expected rodwell to be another rooney............didn't happen

i think we all place too much expectation on the younger local lads

I agree completely, some people expect too much of these lads. In my opinion, Barkley could be a good player for us, but he definitely won't be a star and I never have really understood all the hype about him.

What about that other young lad, looks promising, you know, black lad, Victor something or other?

well when he started a few games last season he looked like he had plenty of potential and i was quite happy with him, then he never got another chance after that and seems to have gone backwards, i think he may possibly need more game time, a lot more than 15 minutes, rooney was a lot more mature physically and had the right mentality, maybe another loan untill end of the season, just give him time, utd and chelsea were interested for a reason

Will someone please tell me the last time they saw an 18/19 yr old running a midfield week in week out in the prem or any successful team for that matter??
You can't, because it doesn't happen. Anyone who knows football will tell you that. To play that role you need a certain level of maturity thats impossible to have at that age. Look at any great midfielder and you'll find they really step it up to the next level by at least mid 20s. I mean look at Fellaini. Why do you think Arteta & Ossie both started out on the wing.
Give the lad time because he's certainly got the raw ability.

i agree barkley needs time but he was rated the next best thing, look at wiltshire he made debut at 16 and saw him get motm vs barcelona , he showed the talent he had and lived up to his reputation, not really seen to much from barkley to think hes going to be top class, maybe hes just not got the mental strengh to be top class, but he does need to be given time to prove himself .

A triple leg break at 17 won't have helped matters. Every player develops differently so its impossible to compare. You can't judge a player based of others of similar age and 10-15 mins here and there. Haver you ever actually watched him in a full game?

as i said i watched him last season first 2 games and seen some youth games and he did ok and said he needs time, but when i have watched him he looks ok but not the top class prospect we were told about only reason i mentioned wilthsire not comparing them im just saying he came in a lived up to the hype barkley hasnt come anywere near the hype as yet
