    I have to admit that I didn't like the way that he seemed to invite criticism onto Fellaini. There was always going to be plenty of people queueing up to take up his offer, and the BBC has form with Fellaini too. I was wrong.

    I'm not saying he should have defended him, printing some god awful t-shirts and campaigned about it. I'm not saying he should have pretended not to see it. But at the time I just thought he could have made the point about the city pen, and what Fellaini put up with in this match.... and say he expected a ban from the FA.

    But what Moyes did do, has in all certainty, worked like an absolute charm.

    You can say the FA couldn't look at all three because he'd have gone after the first one. You can say that each incident wasn't was bad as people make out (Shawcross doesn't have a mark on him) you can argue it which ever way you want.

    At the end of the day, for the FA to act on all three the ref would need to acknowledge that both he and his assistants had missed all three incidents and that they may as well have not of been there for all the use they were. That is not going to happen.

    Result, the big incident gets a ban, the others were seen by officialdom and are therefore not eligible for retrospective punishment.

    Dithering Davey you say?.... not on this occasion, quick as a flash, in the heat of the moment, when many were keen to stick the knife in.... he dealt with it perfectly and Fellaini and Everton FC have come out of this as best they could. In fact, better than anyone could have expected.

    he`s really let the hole team down tho hasnt he, not like he`s a bit part player with 8 goals this year, he`s our best player by far and what we supposed to do with the 3 games he`s banned

    These things happen, it is then for the management to deal with the fall out. That is the point of the thread.

    Squads get rotated too, and there is a lot of football played at this time of year. To be fair, Fellaini is getting a break in now, so he'll be fresh for the rest of the season.

    I have to say when it happened i was the first on the msn threads to say well done Dave , showed some managerial nuts , but with hindsight i'm beginning to change my mind , every other manager in the PL would have stood up and pointed out that shawcross for most of the game was like a cheap suit all over Marou , if this shawcross wants to play wrestling instead of football then i'd have given him a forearm smash and put his lights out , and if you call that a headbutt i'm sorry but my head is more violent when i sneeze , and since when did trial by T.V. become acceptable , maybe next time we should stand together and tell the press and especially those bunch of no marks and has beens on MOTD to do one

    no one in the press   or television  has mentioned Shawcross and his incessant arms round Felli in the penalty area and everywhere on the pitch.....charge the instigator as well as the perpetrator......stoke are not robust....they are DIRTY....and get away with it week in week out.

    top marks to Moyes......brought alot of class & credit back to the club after Felli's moment of madness.....

    i'm sick of managers saying "oh i didn't see it", "he's not that type of player"....sick of liverpool managers talking shlte.......

    now in the pub, when Liverpool fans complain about the headbutt.......we can just say, "yeah he deserved a red card, he got a deserved ban, our manager hid behind no-one, our manager said ban him, our player immediately owned up & apologised, no problem.................what did your club do?".............argument won.....

    Exactly this.

    I'd much have rather Fellaini hadn't decided to nut Shawcross (however much he deserved it), but the way Moyes dealt with this, quickly and in plain sight, is top class.

    if you look at these foto's..for marou's head to have touched shawcross's face..he must have the biggest skull on the planet....

    deffo a hair butt...

    must've really hurt him with that.....

    I suggest fellaini starts to put pepper in his hair from now on and when they grab him from behind just shake his head in disgust towards the referee whilst peppering his opponent at the same time...........hehehe

    i agree with what moyes said on saturday and he was right to quickly condem felli for his actions, but on the other hand i would like to see him fight our corner a little more, weve had horrendous decisions all season and all he says most of the time is " i dont want to comment on the referee" can you see ferguson being so coy about the referreeing decisions weve had, thats why man utd get quite a lot of decisions fergie will constantly highlight the referees failings when things are against them, no wonder we continually get screwed over by officials they know they wont get a pasting off moyes if they make a mistake or 10 , were as they are shittttttttt scared of fergie, its good management in my eyes he constantly fights for his players and team.

    In fairness cjohno, its not Fergie the refs are afriad of. Its the legions of fans Man United have that hang on his every word and who sponsors all over the world look to get in front of... and hence the press pays a huge amount of sympathetic attention to.

    Why else do you thing the 'big clubs' get decisions that others don't.... whose going to buy Mr Poll's books and read his press column if he's upset all of the fans of the big prem clubs?

    I can assure you that not only would the refs not care what fergie said if he was managing stoke city, but fergie would be playing a very different media game if he was managing stoke city.

    Moyes doesn't have the media pull to play with that man united provide fergie with. But he has done very well of late with his tactics.... and while he hasn't always got it right, I think we've all seen him out fergie fergie at least once.

    Can't remember which one, but one of the retired ref's gave an interview
    in which he sated that decisions went their way so often.. not  because
    of the manager, nor the hype, nor the fans or even the occasion of
    playing at Old Trafford or the likes, but because they knew how to complain in the most irritating way.. They would cause hours and hours and hours of work for both the FA and more importantly the officials themselves. So even something simple like giving a throw in to the opposition that was wrong could cause them a few hours extra work. Given the choice of not seeing it and giving a pen that would set you back 6 or 7 hours in paper work and grief.. some simply took the easy option.
    Not sure whether that is still the way of things but that's what an ex ref said was about a decade ago.

    I love Moyes for his management ability, I love him for his commitment and loyalty, but most of all I love him for his integrity. As has been said further up this thread, it gives Evertonians the moral high ground against just about all teams and certainly the likes of the Mancs and the Reds. Football would be a better game if all managers were like him.

    Two other points.....

    The minimum ban was always going to be 3 games, the way that Moyes dealt with it probably played a part in it being no more than that.

    If the outcome of what Fellaini did means that finally there is some directive to referees to cut out all the holding then again football will be a better game, and I think that it would benefit Everton as (although not innocent) we are more sinned against than sinners in this respect. Lets hope it happens!
