Debate - Be content with where we are at or sell up to make us a more attractive proposition?

I'm pretty sure most Evertonian's will be pleased with the performance of the team this season providing it lasts and we secure some form of European football.

However from my perspective this is a make or break season, if we fail we could see one or two key players look for moves to fulfill their ambitions and you wouldn't blame them. Players such as Fellaini, Baines, Jelavic etc and even our manager. If these were to leave it could have a negative impact on the the remaining players and we could take a step back for a period of time.

But this prompted me to think, if we did fail this season or even as a general thought then maybe an exodus/clear out/clear the decks (what ever you want to call it) could be a good thing as it might make us an more attractive proposition for a investor. The reason I believe we fail to attract an investor currently is because we are punching above our weight, we are on the fringe of the top 4, good squad, £40m+ in debt, maxing out our cash flow to the very last penny to keep the players we have which all inflates the clubs asking price and to get any return on an investment would require a huge injection of cash to take us to the next level which puts buyers off.

If we actually ended up selling our key assets and cleared the clubs debt, ended up falling away from the top half of the table which would result in the clubs value falling then we might actually be a more attractive proposition to a big investor as there would be a bigger gain for them potentially.

So the question is, are you happy with the way we are doing things now and waiting for a bit of lady luck or would you prefer negative circumstances to take their course as described above but give us a better chance in finding a buyer and get a greater investment and increase our chances of reaching the top 4 regularly? What do you prefer?

our big problem is we need a new stadium.......thats what puts investor's off.....Man City had a big new stadium beforehand, thats why they were bought......

and i would hate to see us sell our best players, to clear our debt and fall back into a mid table/relegation fighting team....that would be lunacy......
Everton are not "punching above their weight", as the media like to tell us (we've been a regular top 8 team for years).......apparently any team that goes above the traditional "Sky 4" are punching above their weight....which means with liverpool where they are now, half the league is punching above their weight.......Norwich, West Brom, West Ham, Fulham & us all have as much right to fight for 4th spot as liverpool do......if a club is managed right, why shouldn't they.......Dalglish managed Liverpool wrecklessly, Moyes has managed Everton superbly.....and the media can kiss my @ss......

Selling Baines, Fellaini, Jagielka and Jelavic wouldn't clear our debt. We'd still have a few million to go.

    Just putting it out there!

maybe another way of putting it would be, would you settle for another 10 years like the last 10 years?

Personally I actually have been happy with what we have done, I've been supportive of the club and Moyes when they have had the bad patches and fans calling for Bill and Moyes out. The only thing I would like us to do is work on reducing our debt as it catches you up eventually. It would be worse not being able to afford the players we have as that has been replaced with debt, downward spiral from there. So this extra cash from the new tv deal needs to be split between player investment and debt reduction. Just maybe we will qualify for Europe and that will keep a steady ship and we can move onwards and upwards, but if we flop in the second half of the season I do fear how the players will feel about approaching another season after failing to reach Europe again.

the problem we have is if we do get champs league we can't afford to strengthe the squad to maintain that position.

I would deffo consider selling Felli if someone offers silly money

he can be replaced with someone more skilful for alot less

Problem is... I dont think stars are so eager to leave anymore...

They have seen grass isnt always greener...  Peanuts has learnt that and I bet that has influenced the changing room a lot, not only at Everton but throughout the premiership..

    My opinion like..

I don't think you get much loyalty from foreign players! in particular South Amercians and Africans, but this depends on the club they play for. Fortunately we have a good atmosphere and good moral which makes players want to stay or reluctantly leave.

Pienaar left didn't get a look in and back and playing well.

If we didn't have moyes in charge I'd keep players but I'm confident we can kick on if we sell our star names.
    Rodwell great bit of business.

And the players moyes brings in, mirallas 5mil lol he's worth 3 times that now.

Moyes is loyal so it keeps some stability but to kin further needs drastic change.

I'm happy with it so far, think Jela needs a partner, and most likely a paced worker.

    Merry Xmas all you blues
