Unlucky or Blinkered?

    What do ye think, is it sour grapes, or are we the most unlucky team in the league?….Man city, and United have yet to really play well, but they are getting results……..same with Spurs……or is it our own fault, United take their chances, we don’t?.......

    I’ve picked out 7 games this season where I think we’ve lost points……even if only 3 of these games went our way, we’d be 6 points better off now…….

    Newcastle: draw (2 goals disallowed)
    Wigan: draw (Jelavic peno denied)
    QPR: draw (pienaar sent off)
    Fulham: draw (dominated, but wasted chances conceeded late)
    Norwich: draw (wasted chances, conceeded late)
    Reading: lost (dominated first half, should have killed the game, punished)
    Arsenal: draw (possible peno on Pienaar, had more chances)

    I left out the Liverpool game……as even though I think Suarez should have been sent off, I don’t think we’d have won the game…..

    It's down to the team and no one else. Hate it when people blame refs for changing matches every time a result doesn't go our way. I think statistically we're creating more chances and getting more shots on goal than any other club so it's all down to us not converting.

    Although I agree with you in that we are creating far more this season with our more adventurous style of play, I think blaming refs is perfectly justified when the decisions they are getting wrong are potential result changers. And I have to say that the amount of bad decisions against us this season is the worst I can remember - but then, I would also say that the standard of refereeing in the entire Premiership this season is the worst it has ever been.

    i think it's a bit of both but poor finishing has let us down quite a bit this season. As far as the refereeing goes it is suppose to even itself out and lets be honest suarez's goal was disallowed for the wrong reason and there should have been at least one pen against us this season that Moyes agreed with so maybe we can't bemoan it too much, except for the Newcastle match as that just stunk to high heaven that did!

    ya see this is the problem i have right now, i think everyone excepts that the refs are universally rubbish.......but we don't seem to be getting ANY of the big decisions in our favour.....we've had no dodgy peno's, no goals allowed that were offside, no opposition players unfairly sent off......the one decision we have got, was the suarez disallowed goal (but again suarez should have been sent off at that point)......
    it should be evening itself out....but it really isn't for us....

    Alright there NSNO! Feckin quoting system on this site is cr@p, but I think I got the gist of it....

    I can think of perhaps two incidents that have gone our way....Beaver-face's goal being ruled out for offside (though it should have been disallowed for a foul in the build up anyway) and possibly last night when Peanuts could have walked for going in two footed in the build up to our goal.

    Other than that, the 'luck' in decisions we have been getting has been completely bad. As has our finishing in a lot of games, so himwill and Smigone are correct in their assessments.

    And I don't prescribe to the theory that these things even out over a season, because trust me, they don't.

    Our problem is that we are not putting the ball in the net after making the chances and Tim Howard is making too many bad decisions at the other end especially in the closing minutes of the game.
    You can blame the officials but at the end of the day it's upto us to put the ball in the net.

    for me the problem is moyes doesn't come out like most managers and berate the officials so they get an easy ride from him and therfore dont give in the main the majority of decisions our way..


    oliver didn't "cost us" last nite..poor finishing did..but he failed to give the one decision that even I could see form the park end...

    he booked gibson for the exact same foul on the half way line in the firsthalf...and yet didn't even give a "foul" on pienaar for the same tackle...

    all I ask for is consistency from refs..you cant tell me he was consistent last night ..apart from consistently "giving" us nothing and them everything.. every time they hit the ground...

    The stats about the chances we create mean _fuck all. How many of these chances are actually good chances? Some, but not enough!

    Last night was typical - a lot of touches in the final third of the pitch - and the stats will tell you we had a good few chances. But how much did Szczesny REALLY have to do though?

    Last night was typical - a lot of touches in the final third of the pitch - and the stats will tell you we had a good few chances. But how much did Szczesny REALLY have to do though?

    I think the 4 key moments for us were:
    1. Jelavic's volley after he set himself up superbly...blazed over the bar.....Jelly should have got it target, and there would have been nothing Szczczzzzzny could have done.
    2. Distin's header...great save from the keeper...
    3. The peno on Pienaar......i'd have fancied Baines against any keeper....
    4. Baines through on goal, Jelly (offside) took the ball off him......would have been interesting to see what the keeper would have done.....

    so thats 4 great chances there (not bad against one of the top teams).......plus Felli had a header he should have done better with.....and we had several wasteful passes in and around the box....

    the problem with this is that it has a bit of a snow ball effect follwoing on from the first couple of games.

    we all no the newcastle game should have been 3 points but having not one it increased pressure on the next game. we then had sevral bad descision in the wigan game and probably should have had atleast 2 more penalties. following on from the 4 missed points in these games we have gone a bit gun ho (i think thats how to spell it) at the start of the next few games tryin to get the early lead leaving ourselves open to counter attack and ended up goin behind and fighting back for a draw. with each draw the pressure has built on the forward players. we all thought the reading and norwich game where bankers but following the form we are in our forwards are lacking confidence and snatching at chances. the injury to mirallas hasnt helped and what has happened to anichabe? i thought he had a promising start to the season.

    Still only one save the keeper had to make from that lot.

    not good enough!
