Well actually if you give everyone a 25% rise you would get rid of 20% of them to get back to the original wage bill.......

    That's what I said, isn't it?

You tell them Spengler lad. I'd shoot anyone who'd been unemployed for 6 months or more. That would create work for ex army snipers and then we'd have to have someone get rid of the bodies too. Everyones a winner.

i must admit its a tough line you have drawn there snowcone..but its tough measures that are needed in this situation. you have some very harsh but fair ideas, you would get my vote!! :-bd

how earnings have fallen over the last 40 years....

what wages today in the uk would need to be compared to the 1970's adjusted for inflation

    In 2010, £40 0s 0d from 1970 is worth: 40 quid a week from 1970 is...

in 2010: £483.00 using the retail price index

    or £871.00 using average earnings

how many of you are getting paid 483 quid a week?

Knoxy, you seem to have ignored my point, so I'll reiterate:

Increasing the minimum wage this much will ruin the economy even more.

"Increasing the minimum wage this much will ruin the economy even more."

no it wont. it will do the opposite. if people dont have money to spend the economy suffers. money is like petrol in a car. if you dont put any in it will not run. if people do not spend or cannot spend the economy will not grow.

there are plenty of low wage economies in the world and they all have one thing in common, poverty on a massive scale.

if your point was valid countries like bangladesh, (a $1 dollar a day wage) and others like it would be world leaders. in reality it is countries with high wages, usa, japan, norway, germany, france etc, that are leaders and countries with poor wages are inevitably suffering.

ignorance is bliss to conservatives, especially those strange animals the working class conservatives, whose position is: dont bore me with facts ive already made up my mind.

If you read up a bit, you'll see that I said that this will lead to a massive redundancy in people's jobs. This is a fact and no amount of your mindless drivel will do anything to change it.

You've managed to get (wait a second, I need to finish laughing)... The Illinois Times, as the sole source to back you up on that? Knoxy, you're losing your touch.
