Everton,s lack of media coverage

Everton FC should be doing more to promote the club, most days the daily mirror for instance carries no articles at all,the same paper though always keen to print any negatives about us. Tv and news media is unbalanced with ex pros working as pundits and writers, the bulk ex Liverpool and Man U. Come on everton unless we push for a greater share of media coverage we will never get the investment or interest from any potential buyer.

logged onto Champs League and git this, do they know wwho is in the Chumps league in USA. Felli is on there because he is unplayeable at present, 2 goals against Fulham this weekend. Donkey face is there because Brenda thinks he is unplayable, 1 goal against Newc (2 long balls, 2 good finishes, but where was unplayable donkey face's second?)

we'll have to win the League or Champion League news paper/TV start talking about everton, and even it would be "and oh ya Everton won the title for the 10th time, ok that all for see you next season, good'nite"

Although watching the Premiere league show here in Thailand, we get a lot  from Craig Burley and Andy Townends. Not sure if its Sky Sports or ESPN show

always amazes me when people think that it is paranoia to say there is massive bias. I watch some teams play football that is as good as anything the richer clubs manage and the comments are always patronising and dismissive even in their praise. The champs league is a commodity they need to sell and they want certain teams there to sell. Bias is inevitable if not insisted on. In the mean time good players are sitting on the bench at rich clubs and 90% of supporters don't get coverage they deserve. Feels worse for Everton because we are playing at a level way above our market value to them. Doesn't seem sustainable to me in the long term. Assuming it is survivng on foriegn markets where there is little homegrown footnball, but surely it willI cave in at some point when nearly all supporters across Europe realise they are just pawns. I have little interest in Champions League or none until we get there. Problem is I do watch now and again to see if Man U get beat, and there is the dilemna

I wouldn't say it biased on paranoia, to look at the media coverage compered to fan base, if teams like Man U, Arsenal Chelsae and now Man City (and the RS) are not shown, how much would the rating suffer for shower like MOTD, which is only on for a short time once a week.
I can remember a time in the EPL, that unless you were playing man U,  Arsenal or the RS you'd never be on TV. now, with more air time for games, you get to see more teams. But, you still get more coverage for some teams then others
I dont watch the Champions league unless we are there (the fact that its on at 2/3am has nothing to do with it ;) )
Looking at coverage over here (in thailand) in bars and pub they will only play the "big" teams/games as they are who the people want to watch, even tho every team is televised and some bars have 3-4 TV's.
I have true visions (Thailand's Sky TV)  at home due to bars not showing the Everton games so i get to watch every Everton game.

even if the coverage is inevitable, its probably the way teams are patronised that is more annoying. playing really good football agianst the financial odds is not something anyone seems to be given credit for any more. pundits just want to sell your players or call you gritty and disciplned. Like Man U and Chelsea aren't disciplined

This seems to be changing in SA.

I used to have to wait up after midnight to catch our games if we weren't playing any of the "top 4" a couple of years ago.

Since last year, I have been able to catch all our games on satellite live.

This is where pre-season trips are meant to expose the team / brand to newer audiences and I hope Pienaar can twist Moyes' arm and have him do a pre-season in SA.

We have one of the most instantly recognisable faces in the Premier League in Fellaini........ Seriously, whenever I wear my Everton jersey out in public I get "... Everton....... Aaaaah Fellaini...." from people who couldn't give a **** about our team...

i dont know about that, the Premier League show over here has Craig Burley and Andy Townsend as hosts, they do a really good job telling it how it is, if a team any plays badly, they'll say so. it maybe the fact that they are ex-players, i dont know, but they'll not put a shine on "top" teams just because their are financial heavy weights.
and general the live coverage is good too.

but now you're going into a total different area, that's club's power vs player power, and if the likes of Real, Barca or even Man U/city or Chelsea and maybe Arsenal, came in for Fell i think the player may go, thinking that it would either improve his chance of winning something, or improve his weekly income or both.

i can see that but don't see why it should be inevitable. players seem to be told that is the focal point of their career but to be honest Fellaini's profile may go down if he isn't the star player at a club that is doing well

Possible, not many player, which have been stars here, have moved on and been successful, Rooney, and to a lesser extent, Arteta and Lescott.

Would Fellaini be any bigger if he moved to a "bigger" club, i mean Man U look as if they need somebody, but apart from them or going to Spain, I can't really see him being as big at us as anywhere. so that would leaving for money/trophies over club. where we have the Lescott and Owen, leaving their clubs for better chance of sliver wear.

A great club we are (nice pic there EcertonfcNSNO). I've been able to watch lots of Everton games through the years, with some periods of no air time, but we're definitely one club that gets to be shown on tv. Understandable 'cause we've been having our place at the top end of the table the half a decade or a bit more, with a fantastic history.

Been wearing my Fellaini shirt at the local football training ground and the name is being recognized for what it stands for. If we keep going like this, I bet it's an upward direction and possibly interested investors coming near us. Our new strip is Nike, we've been above Liverpool, coming back to Europe with more firepower (Moyes gonna find some quality bargain, he always does that) and it's back to 4,5 stars in FIFA 13. NSNO. COYB. Our season.

Good topic Kingy 555, we dont get many of them. you should have put it in the Everton Folder.

Brett : "Bias is inevitable if not insisted on. In the mean time good players are sitting on the bench at rich clubs and 90% of supporters don't get coverage they deserve. "

excellent post Brett. Most supporters support teams outside the big 3 in the uk, but overseas its another matter and thats were the money is made, selling the epl to foreigners. its the worlds richest and most popular league hence the medias interest in one small segment of it.

its frustrating to hear pundits on tv talking about the same teams over and over again every single week. frankly i'm sick of hearing about them.

PR has become an important part of most big businesses and we probably need to do more in that department, but it would not be an easy task. on the other hand raising our profile would probably make it easier to attract a buyer, its glitz not substance that seems to be important these days.

chicken and egg a lot of it... being overseas... can you see anything the club could do to raise profile... without first being successful on the pitch?

"chicken and egg a lot of it... being overseas... can you see anything the club could do to raise profile... without first being successful on the pitch?"

publicizing  our history would go a long way to raising our profile. a lot of clubs havent had much success for a long time. look at lfc, like us theyve never won the epl but they have a higher profile. links with overseas clubs and sending our youngsters to foreign countries for friendlies would help as well.

a good pr team can raise awareness and raise cash as well sometimes by attracting advertising and publicity. the biggest emerging  markets to target are india and china, and indonesia should not be ignored.  established markets like the usa and former colonies in Australasia, africa and asia are also possible locations for development and promotion.

we appear to have focussed on the far east as an emerging market... but so far as i understand the market is so disjointed and revenue poor that its maybe not all its cut out to be... i wonder whether the us would be the better option...
