Why do referees get so much protection?

If a player makes a mistake he is criticised openly yet when a referee makes a mistake he is not open to the same criticism as managers risk fines/touchline bans etc.

Jon Moss amongst other referees have been consistently poor this season yet they still turn up every week making poor decision after poor decision without too much criticism.

Its got to the point now that I look at who is refereeing our matches before I look at the starting 11, referees ideally should be virtually anonymous in games instead of deciding games.

Players, refs, Moyes, they all make mistakes! If refs were to be publicly exposed for every big mistake they made then there wouldn't be any. They're in a lose lose situation and need that protection. The fans will forgive a player, a ref! No chance!

It's the worst job in the world some are more forgiving and others and then you get the ones who must have been bullied at school who want to make a point.

They should be objectively evaluated in a transparant way to determine who are the best ones so that they can be rewarded and praised.By making them untouchable gives them the power to influence the outcome of games. With all the match fixing in other sport soccer must not think it is immune. All refs are going to make mistakes but the ones making the least are clearly the best while the worst should be told to go and do something else.
