Could Heitinga act as cover for Gibson? and can Coleman be our answer to RB?

Forgetting poor refereeing decisions I think we looked lacklustre in midfield with no real aerial presence and poor tackling. Heitinga as stated he wants games and he might not get them at CB but ould he play in front of the back four to act as cover for Gibson.

Also our attack seems to stem from the Baines/Pienaar partnership o the left far to often and whilst I though Mirallas looked good last night there wasn't any real partnership with Hibbert. Coleman likes to get forward and if we can adapt Mirallas' game to cover for colemans runs forward could we provide an attacking option on the right too?

its a good point about Heitinga. One i forgot about. I would much prefer to see him there than Neville and he had proved in the past that he can do a job there

i agree about heitenga as jags and disten are getting no cover whatsoever from neville, its no coincidense that we have given poor goals away with neville in the centre ( wba and newcastle ) we need to put felli back in there hes our best centre mid and we got plenty of options to play in behind jelavic, mirallass looks decent and even play ossie in behind jelavic he links up great with piennar and bainses and in first half they were very good, as for coleman i just dont rate him and i thought hibbert had a decent game last night and got forward well, my biggest moan last night was when we went 2-1 with a minute to go we got caught out by a big boot upfield and only had jags and disten at the back when we should really of just shut up shop and not pushed so many people forward was school boy defending all round for both goals and howard was dreadful on 1st goal it wasnt evn in corner or a powerful shot

Heitinga is definatly a good shout. One of the main problems with Neville is that he doesn't really offer us a lot going forward, he can do the sideways pass but not much else and even then he doesn't really pass with conviction or pace to keep the play going like Gibson was doing. I can see Heitinga doing the job much better even going forward.

While Neville didn't have his best game on Monday night and can't pass the ball like Kevin Sheedy used to, we can't always blame him. He has been a great captain and player for us and is a great leader. I have seen Heitinga also in that midfield position and he has struggled a bit especially when we were beaten at Goodison 4-1 by West Brom, two seasons ago. We may need to bring Felli back in mid and play Naismith up with Jela. Think Mirralas will star for us too this season, class.

i reckon johnny is better than gibson. osman was ineffective in the 2nd half and jh would have made a good substitute. ba would have got less space to operate if johnny had been on the job.

I can remember only last season when johnny played as teh holding midfielder he got slaughtered on here for not putting his foot in and his distribution being "crap"...now he's wanted there ???

The point about mrallas ?? really are you for real his first full start and "there wasn't any real partnership with Hibbert" Seriously ???

and then you want to turn him from the attacking player he is into a more defensive player...by "and if we can adapt Mirallas' game to cover for colemans runs forward " ?????

really ?? FFS very poor suggestions/comments here...

tbh i hate seing felli up front for me it's a waste of talent and we revert to lumping it up to him ala big dunc days...when he gets bored upfront he drops back into midfield and we start to pl;ay through midfield again and along the deck....he goes back up front and hey presto...the ball turns into a fkkin kite again...

I agree mate, the person in the hole (or behind the striker) should be a creative player, for all his talents, Felli isnt that player, we are a better team than just lumping the ball all over the shop.

i like to see ossy in there tbh.. he can pick a pass and although his shooting is always more like a pass..he does get the odd one right...can see marallas developing into that player...could've seen bily developing into that role if given the right chances...

Seamus Coleman played brilliantly in a recent international friendly and played both right full and central midfield. My biggest fear is that he will not get a fair chance at godson and then come back to haunt us with another team. He is being judged on an injury ridden season but I have seen when he was excellent for us a few seasons back.

That would be my hope Luke....agree about Ozzy, he is technically VERY good and can pick a pass, just lacks the shooting ability a more rounded player may offer in that role..

Coleman is not good enough to play right back, Hibbert is far better.

Firstly I rate Mirallas highly, He is quick footed, knows where the goal is and looks a constant threat going forward. I also highly rate Pienaar for the same reasons but I would also like to see a partnership on the right side like Pienaar and Baines. When Baines makes the run forward Pienaar fills the gap he has left defensively.

Also I didn't say I wanted Heitinga to play in midifield permanently it was a suggestion to act as cover whilst Gibson is out.

Mirallas was played mainly in a central position at Lille, Saint Etienne and Olimpiacos so if he is to play as a winger he will need to adapt his game as Moyes likes players to track back and defend when required.

I also mentioned Coleman for RB as Hibbert and Neville aren't the best going forward and using the left as our main outlet is becoming predictable now and teams will figure this out where is we can switch it from left to right we will become less predictable.

I would much rather see us sign a new RB, one who can get forward and put crosses into the box but as the transfer window is shut we can only work with our current squad
