Is Moyes a football genius?

I remember before holding midfielders and 4-5-1 formation became big in the Premier League, Moyes decided to buy Carsley to play that new role and only played one up front which for one season worked really well and got us to 4th. And then Chelsea got Makalele and played a similar formation which proved a success for them. And now watching Spain do so well without a striker just reminds me of us playing a lot of matches with Cahill in that Fabrages role. Ok, that didn't work as well but maybe Moyes has these revolutionary ideas but can't fulfill them as he is restricted with the personnel and funds at the club. I really don't want Moyes to leave us before he gets the proper investment he deserves so as to see what he can actually do!

Walter Smith bought Lee Carsley, so Walter is the football genius, not Moyes  :-D

Moyse has not always spent big money wisely. Great manager at finding raw talent and developing it not so sure I would trust him with a transfer kitty of €30 million plus though.

It didn't really take a genius to figure out that a midfield consisting of 4 out of Watson, Kilbane, Carsley, Gravesen, Li Tie and Gemmill would get over-run my most Premier League opponents!

He must be a genius, he's been here 10 years having earned about £30+M and we still haven't won anything........

i think you'll find that moyes used to play carsely on the right wing at first and walter smith actually signed him anyway not moyes.  and bolton, under sam alladyce,  were the first english team to used the 4 5 1 system years before moyes used it.

moyes was forced into the 4 5 1 system because he couldn't fit tim cahill into the team so he decided to copy bolton wanderers

Marcus Bent played up top by himself long before Moyes switched to Cahill up top...

It could be argued that Howard Kendal first played one up front with Gary Linaker.....well sort of !!!..... Gary got top scorer Everton won nothing... we were better with Andy Gray.
