At the start of the window, you lot were all going on about how we should sell Fellaini, Rodwell, Jagielka or Baines. All 4 of these are more important than Arteta and when you take his 16 million wages over the 4 years into account, and the 10 million gained from his sale, we are in such a better position financially and should have money to spend in January on a striker.

You might say that we have lost that creative talent on the pitch but no, actually, we haven't. Royston Drenthe is the best signing this club has made for a long time. His creativity, pace and fearless running at defenders will get us all excited on match days.

Not only that, but we also have the bright spark in Ross Barkley who looks like a 10 million signing himself! A class act who can play anywhere across the midfield.

Also taking into account that you were all moaning on here about Yakubu sitting off on a hefty wage, surely you all should be happy we have managed to get a fee and lose his wages?

The only bad thing you can really say is that we needlessly sold Beckford. I have no idea why we did this, but I suppose it's a 3 million profit in the space of 1 year, right?

One last point, is that, now that Arteta has left, we finally have a chance to allow Fellaini (who I will now bet my house on signing a new contract now the Arteta contract has gone) and Rodwell will start to be able to create a unique partnership in the middle of the park that can grow and flourish over the years as they're both so young!

People saying this is the end of Everton are idiots.
Moyes is a genius and I bet that Argentinian is another one of his gems.

I agree on the Yak front - I had assumed he wouldn't be here this season anyway. Am I little surprised ref: Becks but can see the logic of the cash for debt and replacing him with the top scorer in the Argie league - he can't be any worse than becks can he? So probably a good move - I am however torn on the Arteta front as I thought he was a top top man - and I think the kids at the club loved him....as did Cahill/Neville and the senior boys. - But the two new loans look alright and if they work out and we can get them at the end of the season our team will be looking very good - in terms of talent, value and age.(if not depth) - If Vellios/Baxter/Gueye/Wallace can step up then we will be looking good no?

Only time will tell I guess - we now have 10 days to bed them in....bring on Villa.

I totally agree with everything you have stated here. The addition of Drenthe and Stracqualursi will give the squad a much needed confidence boost. Initially, I was gutted about the sale of Arteta but when you look at the bigger picture:
    - £10 million transfer fee
    - £70,000 a week trimmed from the wage bill
    - The player actually wanted to go
    - The sale will allow Rodwell and Barkley to gain more experience and maybe Bilyaletdinov can get a run of games in a more advanced midfield role.

The shake up is what I think the club needed and i'm very excited for the villa game.

    I have nothing against Arteta. He's been an amazing servant for the club, but think about it;
He's been injury prone for a couple of seasons now
If he stayed till the end of his contract, we would of paid him 16 million
He's fast approaching 30 and our whole squad is ageing
He's struggled to cope with the pressure of being our top-dog, especially when Pienaar left.

I'm not saying it's a good thing he has gone, I just don't think it's the end of the world.
At the same time though, people calling him a judas after the 6 years he has given us when attracting interest from top clubs, especially from his home country, has been amazing.
He's got a chance at not only champions league football but finally to push for that dream call-up to the Spain squad. Good luck to him.

Great post and very logical. Drenthe has the opportunity to make his mark and have a fresh start, a bit like Arteta did with us just hope he doesn't become a Van Der Meyde! How many of us have moaned in Goodison when Arteta's free kick hit the wall, corner didn't clear the first defender..... I will definitely miss him and he has given us some fantastic memories and shown amazing touches of class but was past his best for us. This is football and players move on but all these people hating the board tonight need to realise that he handed in a transfer request and wanted to go!!!!

If we had to lose Arteta, now was the right time!

He has struggled in the last 12/18 months to recapture his top form, is this injuries, a lack of motivation who knows but from an Everton point of view it is a good piece of business finacially. I'm sensing things were a little stale and it needed freshening up a little!

I wish Arteta all the best, he gave us 6 years and we didnt quite bring him the success he would have hoped for, he was at a critical point of his career! 29 and the offer of Champions league football so you can't blame the lad. It might be the move he needed and he might recpature top form, I hope he does and I'm sure he will show us plenty of respect when he returns.

In general excellent deals, as pointed out we are saving over £100K in wages per week which covers the £5m deficit and we get £15M in the process which will help take a chunk of the debt if its used to pay off the ctual debt? This should make paying off the remaining amount a little easier too!  Yakubu wasnt in favour and we did think he wa lazy and Beckford was poor so thats a great business too! It's time to freshen things up at Everton and people like Jags, Heitinga, Saha, Billy, Yobo, and possibly Fellaini will come under the microscope now in terms of their reaction to recent events and their commitment to the club, if they look flat then time to rebuild and get rid of some of these players on high wages and look to the players of tomorrow.

Well i havent signed in for about 5 years but always lurked, this must be the best post ive read alnight, someone with abit of savvey and thinking positive, i think this has been one of best transfer windows in ages, weve killed 15mill off the debt aswell as 6mill a year player wages and got rid of 2 players that wernt playing/playing well, result bar becks...We aint never gonna get investment in this day and age when the investers have gotta pay off £45mill worth of debt first before doing anything else it just dont make sense for them...the board realy need to up the anty this yaer a make some money instead of losing it and then maybe this time next year if we sell one more player we could be debt free...heres hoping anywayz COYB
