My take on this season

I think we would all have been happy with a 7th place finish this season, if that was offered at the start of the season. Well I know i wouldve. With the 800,000 quid per place in the prem I think we gotta really pull out all the stops and hold that place. There is the added bonus of being above Liverpool which of course we all want.

Up until January I saw very little promise in our team and I even got to a point where I wasnt watching the team as much and felt so dispondent with the way we played. I certainly questioned Moyes and his style of play. And in some  senses i still do but its amazing how the January signings transformed us as a team. The turnaround was incredble as far as i was concerned. Before we couldnt create anything and now not only are we creating but converting too.

I just wish I could put the finger on why we always have such poor starts to the season. I mean whats it all about. Shouldnt Moyes know the problem by now. Some people say its the poor choice of pre-season friendies but im not so sure about that. It really is a mystery.  I tired of the whole `well we should do well next season`. how many years have we been saying that now.  I really think this will be he best we can do as things stand without investment. And unless we get some soon i think we can forecast a similar situation next season.

With regard players.  Fellaini has won me over finally. Pienaar and Jelly are vital to us as is Baines, Howard and Heitinga.  With an attacking RB and Hoilett we can move forward.....

anyway....thats probs my longest posts ever. Hope you can be bothered to read and comment

i totally agree with you AMH..if someone had even said we'd get to the fa cup semi i'd have questioned their opinion right up to december !1

considering some people were stating we'd finish behind the likes of stoke, villa, fulham sunderland because of the money they spent in january..we expected to finish behind them. (and still may) however, we've once again shown we're not as bad as some people like to portray !!

big for me dissapiontment was actually losing the semi to them !! so shows how far expectation level rose (again)

Yeah, same here, especially when you look at how we did against Sunderland the week before, then the Mancs and Fulham since..... We really did miss out there. I think frustrating is a better word really to describe not winning the Semi.

    Agreed.

It is frustrating that we always seem to start bad. But i feel with Yellow up front this may change next year. We have a striker that is complete. He does not do any more than is needed to score and works hi a**e off for the team. This alone is great but his ability to be able to bring in other team members is amazing while having the ability to go alone. It has shown in the other polayters and takes a lot of pressure off them to score as before we had good strikers that in all truth were rubbish in our shirt for one reason or another.

I feel if we do not lose any and sign Drents, straq and Nuts next year could be a good year.

I do stress at the formation but it really does suit the team. It reall frustrates me that in the big games we seem to get the lead and then DEFEND, this is not our football. We showedn in the lat 3 weeks we need to go forward and attack and not stop to the final whistle. In the last 3 league games we have scored 12 and conceded 4. Confidence is high and shows through out the team.

I did not think at the start of the season we would be here in 7th and thankfull for the team saving Moyse again. I also have a big supprise in saying Heity has been our best and most consistant player this year SUPRISED.

Major depending on the summer but i hope and feel this COULD be a turning point for moyse and EFC now we have A striker that siuts us down to the ground, he is a complete striker and is high on confidence. I just hope the negative tatics are removed from our play and that we continue to harang and hassle teams like we have in the past few weeks.

its easy to get carried away at the moment with our form and why we start so badly, the signings in january have been crucial, but weve been the same the last few seasons, weve had so much optism going into the next season only to be let down, on our performances lately sunderland were terrible and have been for most of the season, they had a good spell when oniel joined but have slowly declined, we wont get man utd letting us back in the game like that again, it could of been a lot worse , but our attacking play was very good but with felliani playing off the striker defensively we were poor and man utd constantly ran neville and gibson ragged , which is why we need felliani in the centre as for fulham they got there flip flops on and no real incentive. probably our best performance was away at sunderland in fa cup, and its just a shame when we come up against teams with massive incentive and who will fight like the rs did in semi we dissapeared and were very poor. maybe why we do well after xmas is theres a lot of games were teams have nothing to play for and the spirit and fight we have carries us through, which at the start of the season its not quite enough as teams have all to play for from the off.

TBH I still cant get over the semi only because it was them..I wouldn't of minded (in a strange way, but obviously wanted to win) losing the final if only we beat them in the semi...

especially considering the way we've played since...

I think it's entirely the opposite...

.I think at that stage of the season all teams have things to play for whether it's relegation, mid table finish, or winning EUFA, CL spots or the league..teams "up their game" and so do we to match them....

The big difference now is deffo Jelavic. the team now have confidence in the front mand to score and thus match the hard work put in by the defence and midfield...we never had that before apart form the season after the yak come and scored all thiose goals..only for him to toally let us down..somehow cnt see that happening with jelly !!!

The semi was bad very bad but for me it was not the losing that hurt the most.

It was the way we played and how they conducted themselves that was the let down. Totaly not in it on the day.

I'll reserve judgement on how we do next year until I see who we get to replace Cahill and who we get to play right and left midfiled (Pienaar permanently?). These are the 3 key signings for our short term prospects (i.e next seasons) IMO. And we need to make them early. These signings on August 31st is part of what's killing us at the start of every season IMO. The last time we started well under Moyes was the 2006/07 season when we had signed Howard and AJ even before the previous May was out and followed up in June by signing Lescott. So the sqaud was in place before pre-season started....and shock horror we got off to a flyer and went unbeaten for the first couple of months!! THIS is the key! But this will always be a problem for us when we're in the loan market and clubs won't loan you a player until deadline day when they accept they won't be able to sell him straight off!

    I agree

I really think we couldn't believe we were ahead. So instead of attacking the s..t out of them & their 3rd choice goalie in the 2nd half, we sat back & relied on a strong defence to keep them out. And a big boot up the field hoping to hit an Everton head.

But that's the past. 7th would be a major achievement. But if they start slowly next season I think we might all go slowly mad......

for me this season was all about 1 game ......and it turned into a disaster.......7th in the league would be a great result all things considered, but its the liverpool game that meant every thing for me.

The big plus......Jelavic.......i think that signing has nearly saved us from floating back to the days of midtable/relegation battles...and gives us something to look forward to for next season.....lets just hope when the big game comes next season, Moyes has more confidence & faith in our team, and if nothing else practices what he preaches (BTW, Moyes will never get a top job if he bottles it like that again for us....i hope he learns from it).....

I dont stand by this "moyes bottled it".."moyes has an inferiority complex against lpool" "no plan b"... shoite

His plan B was to stop them scoring..He should of just stuck with "Plan A".......He fiddled with the team and got burnt...simple as....bad decision on his part ...end of..

when we went 1-0 against Fulham.....did Moyes change things and go defensive?.......Nope, he knew we had the beating of them so we went for more goals (final score 4-0).

when we went 1-0 against sunderland.....did Moyes change things and go defensive?.......Nope, he knew we had the beating of them so we went for more goals (final score 4-0).

but against Liverpool.....despite Liverpool being sh't.........Moyes still believed they were better than us...he didn't believe in his team (even though form and the league table made us favourites), therefore he bottled it......

big difference......Alex showed respect for Man city....they have been in great form, have great attacking players, better players than united have, and they had home advantage....so Ferguson went into the game defensively........

    we were playing Liverpool.....

dont agree..neither of those games were semi finals and at wembley...

he sat the team in..as he knew they'd come at us hell for leather at the start of the first half..problem was we couldn't get out of it once we were in it..

"he didn't believe in his team" seriously...FFS.....why is he still here if thats the case..?

Isn't 'Play the game not the occasion' Rule number 1 in the football manual?

and no i don't think he believed in the team.......thats my opinion, clearly you disagree.......LIverpool looked more nervous than us first half (they gifted us a goal due to that), and had an inexperienced keeper who probably couldn't believe his luck he had it so quiet.......its one thing sitting back, but you then have to look at hitting them on the break....we didn't even do that...we never pushed our full backs forward (don't think Baines crossed the half way line second half.....thats criminal)...and Cahill, osman or anyone never got close to supporting Jelavic second half.........

remember the Arsenal game last month?...about 10-15 minutes in......Arsenal had us penned back...Moyes went mentle on the touchline, yelling his team to push forward.....where was that at wembley?.....

Had Moyes believed in his team.....he'd have told them they had this game, we're better and we're fitter and all the pressure is now on them.....lets go get that second goal and kill them off.......he did the exact opposite......
