Messi better than Maradona?

    He is better, I think the quality of player has got better since Maradonna's era so to be considered the best player now is some accomplishment.

    He is surrounded by quality players at Barca.

    Maradonna wasnt at Napoli. He was a one man band.

    yer i actually don't like messi not denying hes class just don't like all the hype about him would love to see what he could do in the prem week in week out don't think he would be as good as ronaldo

    i dont think theres much between messi and ronaldo tbh, messi gets bigged up more because hes at barcelona and had all that success and as you say hes got all those players around him, pfffffffff imagine if hibbert was at barca he would be best full back in world(mainly because he wouldnt have to defend so often .

    Maradona almost single handedly won Argentina the world cup in 86'.

    Messi hasnt.

    To be fair Messi in an Argentina shirt looks a different player, I still believe that if Messi was playing in any team he would be a stand out player and would be a "one man band". 

    Maradona was the best of his time, messi is the best now and I believe the standard of football has improved a lot since then

    maradona was a fantastic player, but also a cheat. have never forgiven that little turd for the way he cheated england in 86..and for all those that say he scored the greatest goal ever..why didnt our peter reid just tackle him ..?hes just jogging after him for fucks sake!!!!!!! :-(

    Messi gets kicked every which way and stays on his feet. In this day and age, given his position, I think that speaks volumes about him. He is humble, does good work for charity and seems to appreciate his position on the world stage

    Maradona, while being fantastic and not surrounded by the quality of player in the current barcalona team also didn't face many teams of barcalona's current quality either. He played in an era where a world class player stood out like a beacon of super human light.... these days, Tony Hibbert tucks Gareth Bale neatly into Phil Nevilles back pocket. The game has quite simply moved on. Plus, he's not just a cheat but a remorseless cheat and one who took drugs while playing professional football.

    I have no doubt whose company would be more fun.

    Other than than that I can see there is much point comparing the two.... you may as well compare Henry Cooper to David Haye.
