    Even though he is the Greatest Sprinter of All-Time (exept a Caveman Billions of years ago running from a Sabre-Tooothed Tiger), i thought he was being Extreamely Arrogant/Big-headed etc & disrespecting his opponents. I thought i hope you Trip up, and he Kinda DID, false-starting & getting Disqualified Ha Ha Ha Ha

    I don't think he was, I think he was basically making the point that the rest of the field doesn't matter, he's got to focus on his own race. Anyway, have you heard the story that it was actually Yohan Blake who supposedly false started? I've watched the footage and can't see anything myself but apparently that's what happened.

    I heard when the rules were different, i.e when each race was allowed one false start before runners got disqualified, he did a false start on purpose so as to put all the runners who needed the best possible start at a disadvantage against him.

    So it does kind of have an ironic ring to it.


    But the main point for me is that the rules are far too harsh. OK the crowd started booing a few years ago after a race had 4 false starts of some such. So what, they are there to watch a race at the end of the day.

    But the number of people who got disqualified due to a false start is just appalling.  All that preparation, all those people involved, the work of coaches, the money in support from their countries and sponsors. All the hopes of their family, friends and the nation they represent... gone, in that one instant.

    And for what, so a crowd of people who paid money to go and watch a race (depending on what country.... more than likely a free ticket) who might boo is a race has a few false starts.

    Sod the crowd I say, give the athletes a fair chance given the work they've put in. One false start each, two and your out.

    Spot on TC. I used to do wheelchair athletics for about six/seven years, so started off with two false starts and then if you got three, you were out and I used to be fine with that. Then the rules changed, they decided it was going to be one false start and I hated this as it was a massive pressure and as a result, my starts were not the best to say the least. However, to make it as pressured as it is now is absolutely ridiculous. 

    They'll argue that it's because it was all too time consuming and so they wanted to eradicate that, but it's unfair as you say on the athletes, who are under pressure as it is to run a massive race. Although I disliked the one false start rule, I think it is the best way and most convenient way for all concerned and so the rules should be re-written again to allow for the one, and strike 'em out if they do it twice.

    Something will need to be done. I can imagine the one false start rule might be a pain in the backside Andy, especially in the amatuer circuits. But as you say, it is probably the best way to sort out the problem, especially at the top level.

    Can't see the rules staying as they are currently. Some of the false starts are being blamed on the officials leaving too big a gap between the set and the gun.

    I just hope it doesn't take it happening to a national hero, entering the last years of their career at their last Olympic games for them to see sense about it.


    Its just ridiculous really.
