Firstly i need to expain that i've been a season ticket holder for the past 7 or 8 years and i've always been a been behind David Moyes. But for me this is defeat is the straw that broke the camels back. Unless we get investment and a new manager i'm not renewing my season ticket.
This may sound like a sudden change of heart so bear with me and i'll explain. I still admire Moyes for the way he gets the best out of mediocre players, his eye for a bargain buy and generally what he achieves on a small budget. However ther's a pattern emerging over his 10 years where we nearly always bottle it in the really big games. Yes, i know we've had great victories against the likes of United, City, Arsenal ect but when i say the really big games i mean when the pressure is really on and we have a chance to achive something eg derby matches, European games and cup finals/semi finals. It's no coincidence that Moyes record in derby games is abysmal, also consider the matches that led to us getting knocked out of Europe - Florentina (Lost 2-0), Standard Liege (lost 2-1), Sporting Lisbon (Lost 3-0) and the FA cup final against Chelsea.
It's not so much the fact we lost these games but the way we lost them. The teams that knocked us out of Europe were good but far from the best in Europe but in all the games i mentioned we played like we were scared or were too defensive (or both). Chelsea were obviously a good team but still it was another pathetic performance. We didn't even perform well in the semi against United either and were a bit lucky to get through.
We nearly always bottle it in these type of games. So, even if we had money i don't see us winning anything under Moyes as he's unable to motivate the team to produce great performances when the pressure is really on.
