Drenthe

Maybe he'll start, maybe he won't.

If he does you'd doubt he'd still be playing come the final whistle, but without Pienaar he is the biggest threat we have down the left.

He's be called a headless chicken, a liability and even compared to a cheap_slut you know you should steer clear of but whom you know you won't be able to after a few pints. Such is the aesthetic charm of the rather racy goods on display!

The question is.... Do you think he will stay?

The reason I ask is that people are talking about our ability to afford Pienaar, and maybe Harry won't be managing there when the season draws to a close, etc.

Personally, I'd rather have both. Although, of the two, I'd prefer Pienaar. But surely on a free efforts should be made to secure his signature?

Maybe I'm wrong here...but I'm getting the feeling that even though we had a tough run of games leading up to this one, even though Moyes rested players and could have done with Drenthe playing, if only for 30 mins here or there. That Moyes has sort to get into Drenthe's good books by being so understanding about the situation... leading up to his contract running out.

I've got no idea (aside from the rumours) as to why Drenthe was given all those games off, but maybe it would help strengthen the bond between player and club when the time comes? Maybe Drenthe is grateful for the clubs understanding and time off at such a critical time for the club. Maybe not, is there such a thing as loyalty in football?

Again, I don't know for sure the actual facts behind his time off so maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick and Moyes had no real option. Maybe you do know, if you do, or if you don't, please feel free to speculate wildly in this thread while answering the question (and giving your reasons why):

Will Drenthe sign a contract for Everton when his current contract expires?

Ok, thats one vote for YES.

Reason: Jayee019 posting positively on the subject will 'tip the balance'.

Speculation regarding his absence: None given

Don't think he's done enough to be honest.......yes he has he's moments of excitment, but hasn't shown alot of consistency........
he will be a free agent, but i assume as a result, his wage demands will be quiet high......and that could cause resentment with other players. Until we know why he was given compassionate leave, its hard to know where he stands with Moyes.

Will he start tomorrow?,,,,,i don't think he will.....the first 30 mins will be fiery, high tempo, big tackles going in everywhere......and thats not where you want drenthe, total liability and a red card waiting to happen.......i'd play coleman, and bring drenthe on as a sub around the 60 min mark

I'm not sure he will stay, hope so as I would like to see what he can achieve after his first season, if he improves the way Peanut did, then we have another Kanchelski's on our hands, if not it's a Beckford situation and we cash in.

Speculation and the obvious rumour; Scouse girls did for him as they did for AJ, they are just too hard to resist!

Agree about him starting. Although maybe Moyes will view it the other way as he does attract a foul too. But hope and suspect you are right.

On the not sure he's done enough point. Its a tough one, its not like he was playing at Real Madrid and its not like the prem isn't a big change inside half a season.... and then there is the compassionate leave, so he's not had the most ideal half a season to settle in and show his stuff. That said, for free you'd have to think we'd try and sign him, if only to sell him fairly quickly if he still can't settle after having had a full season.

That is madness.....You want to just sit back and let them come on to us without and attacking outlet on the right. To play neville right back and osman right midfield, that is what we need on the right.

Well, you'd essentially said that signing Drenthe is a win win situation there, We made good money on Beckford and he scored some important goals too. And christ knows we could do with another Kanchelskis. I agree, he is too good a propsition to pass up.

As for the speculation.... I heard it was a brazilian super model...

liverpool will come out the traps quickly, so weather the storm for the first 15, then start to play....as we always do. osman will play the full 90 if you ask me. hibbo always gets up the wing an gets crosses in

i suppose there is the point of getting him under contract so he has a transfer value........I've just found him very frustrating......yes at times he's very exciting to watch, but then there's all the games he's missed with niggling injuries, suspensions, compassionate leave.....plus he can be very sloppy in possession.

personally i don't think he works hard enough, and is focused enough to be a David Moyes type player......

and when i see him playing against the big teams, i think he's looked more like someone trying to catch the eye of the opposing manager, then someone doing his job for the everton team.....

I do agree, but I'd also say that he's had a fair bit to contend with. You can only imagine the ego of the lad at his age signing for Real Mardird. From there, the lack of games, the wilderness, Mourinho trying to force him out for cash, getting used to the prem inside half a season, whatever the compassionate leave was about.

I doubt anyone at his age would look great under the circumstances... but the flashes he has shown offer you the best indication of his worth... well, that and his age. For me its win win, and I think Moyes's compassionate stance are an indication that he feels the same... unless the fact reveil otherwise.

i think thats the key factor......it was never revealed what the compassionate leave was about which is strange.....if it was death in the family, the club would have just said that.

Moyes may have already decided Drenthe's faith in the summer....but right now (with Pienaar cup-tied, coleman not in &out with injury, and gueye inexperienced) he needs Drenthe in the squad, so he'll do whats right for the team for this game.......

It is a strange one alright. Unusual, which is why I can't help but feel Drenthe is getting some sort of favourable treatment what whatever reason.

I agree with this really. Thing Gueye has earnt it. Tell him to go out there and run his socks off for an hour and then throw Drenthe on.

Still wouldn't be surprised if Drenthe is taken off before the end either!
