True, it is a shock to all concerned.

The duty on special brew is a massive issue in our house!

Made by Carlsberg in honour of Winston Churchill. At their head office in Copenhagen the still us the old air raid siren as a fire bell.

And oddly, the oiriginal Carlsberg elephants (of Elephant beer fame) that still stand in Copenhagen have swastikas on the side of them, although nothing to do with the war, they were a symbol of good luck before the germans adopted it.

In fact Calrsberg's leading selling strong beer before Winston's Churchill's Special Brew had a swastika on the label.

    1) The top 4 teams in the league qualify for the Champions League.

    2) 5th place in the Premier League qualifies for the UEFA Cup. 5th place is the ONLY league place that qualifies automatically via the league standings.

    3) The winners of the Carling Cup qualify for the UEFA Cup. If the winners of this have already qualified for European competition via their league placing, then this UEFA Cup place is transferred to the 6th placed team in the league... this is the case this season since Chelsea were the winners.

    4) The winners of the FA Cup qualify for the UEFA Cup. If the winners of this have already qualified for European competition via their league placing, then this UEFA Cup place is transferred in the first instance to the runners-up in the FA Cup... if they too have already qualified for European competition via their league placing, then the UEFA Cup place transfers on to the 7th placed finishers in the league.

See, I knew there was a bit of fecking about with the cups. Lucky for us its the Carling cup that reverts to the league and not the FA Cup... so I was right in that there was a rule there that could effect us.

So, we've got to hope Newcaslte don't catch fifth (looking likely) and so long as we we get past Sunderland and liverpool and don't meet Bolton in the final then we are back in Europe.
