A day to reflect...

Having calmed down after yesterday's result and having watched the highlights again I don't think it's all doom and gloom out on the pitch. Firstly, they had one shot on target and it was some mindless defending by Jags who failed to clear the ball on 2 occasions then stupidly stepped away from Smith to close down the ball. But let's be honest, it's a simple mistake that I doubt will happen again from him, so wholesale defensive changes aren't needed.

The whole match was played in their half and our poor finishing and Paddy Kenny on fine form cost us in this game. Cahill should have scored twice, Beckford shouldn't have attempted an over head kick, Rodwell should have done better with his chance early in the second half, Fellaini was denied twice by good keeping from Kenny and how often does the ball hit the underside of the bar and go in so Baines was desperately unlucky. Once again, easy things to solve!

Moyes has come in for a lot of grief for his team selection and I agree on the most part: Rodwell should have been in the middle where he can run at the defence and move Osman to the right but allow him licence to move more central as I'm sure Heitinga and Neville would be to cope with any counter attacks down the right. Yes, Barkley is a centre mid but it would be wrong to start a 17 year old in the centre when he has zero first team experience in such an important part of the pitch. The big blunder was playing 15 mins without a recognised striker that's a given and we'll have no idea what he was thinking there.

I'd imagine that the reason Arteta, Fellaini, and Saha didn't start was because they've had a stop start pre season due to knocks and recovering from injuries and it would have been a major risk starting them.

Like every Premier League fixture, no match is a guaranteed result and we had no god given right to beat QPR yesterday and they'll be bigger shock results in the Prem this season. Saying that, we should have won comfortably yesterday and I'm sure we'll make a better start to the season that last (it couldn't be much worse)!

but if arteta, saha, felliani were not fit then dont put them in the squad, vellios, billy or anyone would of been better than unfit players coming on, what would of happened if saha had got injured when he came on, we would of had no strikers available, better to start then change it if these players are struggling, lets face it they couldnt of done any worse than rodwell, heitenga, beckford.

They may have been fit but not match fit so it makes sense to just give them half an hour when the opposition has tired instead of starting them. Anyway Billy was suspended, cant argue with Vellios. Beckford worked hard and didn't get a lot of service and thought Heitinga had a solid game in trying to set up plays.

I DONT think that Fellaini, Arteta and Saha were match fit.
