Our goal on Saturday

Setting aside how lucky we were that the flag stayed down ...
This goal proves a point I've been making for the last two months. We need to attack (1) in the middle and (2) on the ground.
For months, everything has gone down the wings, and from there, everything has been a cross in the air. It is unimaginative, especially with Cahill in such poor form. Once in a while the wingers (i.e. Baines) should take on defenders and try to cut in along the goal line, but more than anything, we need to attack the middle and play balls on the ground. This goal was what we need more of -- strikers making a run and being fed a ball on the ground that they can do something with.

When linesmen are unsure they usually put their flag up so I can see where you're coming from

It was a great forward pass by our quarterback Donovan to our receiver Big Vic who coolly punted the ball past the goal-tender...........nothing lucky about that my American friend

    No you cant.

There is no luck in a linesman keeping his flag down.

Chicago mate, on this occasion, no disrespect meant, but you are wrong.

Did you sort your flights out for those games btw?? :)

Yes, to the tune of $380 more. But you only live once, no sense travelling over there and missing the game. Plus the flight will now be on British Airways instead of American Airlines, meaning I'll get about one inch more of knee room -- but when you're 6-foot-2, every bit matters. Into London, 65 minutes to clear border inspection and board the plane to Manchester. What are my chances?

Sambo, this comment was from Benjeey, so it is him with whom you disagree.
And irrespective of Saturday's goal by Vic, everyone has seen the flag go up on a close play that the replay showed to have been onside. Sometimes the linesman has an itchy trigger finger.

Definately onside mate, I agree about attacking through the centre though instead of the constant aimless crossing in and nobody getting on the end

Yes, but the cross that Donovan sent in from the wing was a thing of beauty; if we were offsides on the goal, we were yanked from behind and deserving of a penalty for what happened at the end of that cross. But, anytime you can thread the needle like Donovan did on the goal, it doesn't get much better than that as well. I guess the odds are better attacking from center, but a lot of may favorite goals to watch have been off of centering crosses from the flank.

the bit your missing chicago me old china is the fact that the gap was created for donavon to put the pass into by the inside out run of saha !!

big vic was way behind the defender when the ball was passed..the defender went square to to try cover the space opened by the run then realised he couldn't which left vic to ghost past him..

never offside or even close to being !! thtas the problem with watching on telly as opposed to live ..you can only see what the camers shows...

I think we all know this. But we have had no midfielders who you could call "a playmaker" to do it. Even the one's who are so outraged that Moyes thought we needed a new midfielder know this deep down surely!

I reviewed the goal on You Tube, and you are right. It appears Villa were attempting an offside trap, but the central defender -- not the one near Vic, but the next one over -- was late stepping up and played Vic onside, even if Vic was slightly ahead of his defender when the ball was played.
It was the three touches by Landon before he sent the ball through that had me confused on live TV. I know if I were in Vic's shoes, I'd have been off and running on the second touch!
