merchandise deal missed opportunity

I am a little perplexed why we signed an exclusivity deal with kitbag than restricts the general sale of everton merchandise in a number of high street shops etc. For the majority of joe public actually prefer to shop in person rather than using internet and it also restricts those without a computer of credit card etc in purchasing and adding to the clubs coffers. I can appreciate we got a one of cash injection, but i feel this was a definately a knee jerk reaction and a smash and grab. It is certainly a restraint on bringing in much needed revenue and reduced marketing across the world in restricting sales.

I think you maybe over-estimating the receipts we expect to get from everton merchandise.

Agreed we probably all still look at Everton as one of the "big 5" and should exept our appeal is deminishing. I do think however and this is more in hindsight that Le Coq is not on the same playing field as Addis or Nike who are now opening up branded stores globally and within it selling shirts.

There is still a big (probably aging) Everton fan base abroad and you never see strips for sale. but as you commented maybe even these stores wouldnt carry the strip as they do not see it as viable or these manufacturers are only interested in the "champions League" Clubs

I doubt it. EFC havent been big internationally since the mid 80's and in those days football wasnt screened like it is today.

the epl has a huge audience, the old first division never had it.

Having worked abroad for the last 6 years and done a bit of travelling you find that most the foreigners are supporting the big team because most people follow success and although your right the coverage is more recent in that time Everton have not been attractive and therefore not captured the youth.

For example you rarely saw Man City tops until the last couple of years but now they are becoming common. The overseas audience I was talking about was very much the expat community (which is generally older) and when ever you go to a pub to watch Everton there is always a few fans there.
