Some of you may have seen this before, but I still think it's relevant. Look at how our squad has aged, where are the new Cahills, Artetas, Pienaars?

I don't want to see the return of McFadden or Pienaar. I don't want to see Cahill and Jagielka get older, more injured and end up like Saha. A practical wage burden. We've been doing things wrong for a while. When our players reach their peak value shouldn't we sell them on and bring in a new youngster?

how much would an arteta, a cahill or a jagielka cost us today?

a lot more than we paid for them. the idea that we can go on buying players cheap and then selling for a profit and replacing them with new players is  very optmistic.

its not easy to find these players because they are few and far between.

our academy produces its fair share of good players, but even so, you cannot build a squad on the output of your academy.

i think the idea that a club can be a successful club, or even earn a living by buying and selling its players is unrealistic.
