Peter Eastoe, Andy Gray, Barry Horne, Gary Lineker, and Lionel Messi in 2025?

I think Lineker excited me most, I thought we were going to really dominate. only.played one season, scored a hat full but we won nothing. Cottee too I really liked the idea of. I really rated Mark Ward, Pat Nevin and Anders Limpar on the wings, only Nevin really did it for us.

Slightly off topic, I remember Neil Pointon's (mullet and tache) debut. Didn't know much about him but we dismantled Arsenal, I think it was 6-1, maybe 5. I had never seen a left back attack like he did that day. I was so excited. Never saw him do it again either mind you.

Most excited by the arrival of Amokachi. The lad was getting praised from all corners and as a kid it was great to see that he was signing for us

Duncan's return, Andy Van Der Meyde, Mikel Arteta, Gazza, Ginola (even though they were well past their best), Andrei Kanchelskis, AJ were all players I was made up to see come through the Goodison doors. Unfortunately some of them (VDM) were real let-downs in terms of what their potential was and what they actually were like!

I had forgotten about Van Der Meyde, I was still hopeful in his last season, I saw him pre-season against Forest (and he got injured) but for 60 minutes he blew everyone off the park, made Arteta look like Mike Milligan.  What a waste.  Much as I lament the squandering of Everton's money, I genuinely hope he has sorted out whatever it was that was up with his head.

On his day, he was quality, his crossing and his all-round play was brilliant but then injuries hit and his head went South and unfortunately he never became the player we had all hoped he would be.
