what is the point of a new striker??

david moyes has stated that he would like to bring at least 1 new striker in as we are a bit short. as much as i would like to see a 20 goal a season hitman in the blue of everton i just dont get it. we have saha, we have straqularsi(sp) vellios little conor mcaleny and james mcfadden (im not going to include the useless anichebe here)   ok saha when on form and able to play is a 20 goal a season striker. havent seen much of denis but from what ive seen he seems an ok player. vellios is quality i really like him. conor will be class and mcfadden obviously isnt fit yet. the problem i see is that we only play with 1 striker. so we have plenty of choice for that, WHEN we play 2 upfront then we need another striker but we already have 5 and moyes only picks 1. im not saying we dont need a striker but we cant afford the top class striker we need. does anyone really believe that nicky maynard is going to score 15+ goals up front on his own between now and the end of the season. its not a new striker in the squad we need its an extra one in the team each week. just my opinion.

Your argument falls at the first hurdle, what ever gave you the impression Saha could score 20 goals in a season for us?

I agree with 2 upfront but no saha isn't 20 goals a season very rarely 20 games and in 80 percent of them he's dis intesrested and lazy. I would actually prefer anichabe.

but he doesnt actually get 20 goals for us; he gets on average 10 and is nowhere near getting that total this year....

'Ifs' buts and maybes don't cut it in the Prem, we are DESPERATE for a striker who can score on a regular basis, sadly Saha is not doing this for us.

Has Saha every scored 20 in his career? I think that we should play two strikers at home at least but we do need a new striker without a doubt.

We should buy someone who can score goals along with another striker in a 4 4 2. I would have wanted to keep hold of Beckford to be honest, him and Saha worked well up front together.

I don't really know to be honest, as I say I would have kept hold of Beckford or even the Yak.

Probably from the Yakubu and Beckford sales.

i said £5 not £5million.......thats the point... we dont have any money to buy anyone who can play upfront on their own and score 15 goals

and we havent kept the yak or becks so that is irrelivent. we are talking about what we should do now and im saying what is the point of a new striker. unless we can get our hands on the crown jewels and sell them out the back of a lorry to get some cash we might as well JUST PLAY 2 OF OUR STRIKERS

Nobody is going to get 20 goals a season playing in a 4-5-1 whoever we got, personally i think Beckford was a big mistake and imo he would of got around 12 for us this season and the Yak would of scored mmore than what we have so far with what we got so with a combined sell on price of around 4 mill for the both of them was a disgrace.....were gonna go out and spend 10 mill on a striker who wont get anywhere near 20 a season under the formation we play....and Moyes wont change his tactics until we get to 40 points and he will release the reins and we will have a strong finish lie we always do..

We can debate the sale of yak and becks all night. One thing that is wrong in this is people still saying that Moyes only plays 4-5-1.  He has in the past month played 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1.

Saha and Beckford complemented each other when they played up front together, so I don't really know why Beckford was sold. He was our top scorer last season despite playing less than Saha did, and Saha hadn't scored all year until Beckford came into the team and played along side him in a 4 4 2. I have said many times before that the Yak is a goalscorer and he will always score goals for you. If he would have played for us in a 4 4 2 formation I am sure he could score goals for us, and I believe Beckford is a goalscorer, as he has also scored goals wherever he has been. And as already pointed out, it was ridiculous that we only got £1.5M for Yakubu and £2.5M for Beckford.
