Posts: 2,516December 2011 What annoys me about Kim Jong-Il and North Korea is that they are seen as Communists! That is not Communism at all, it's a form of Fascism! If he's a Communist, then Thatcher's Mother Teresa and we all know that ain't true! And it's partly the Media's fault for giving a false idea of how Communism works.Another thing that annoys me, is that he was seen as some sort of God-like hero, I remember watching a programme on North Korea and it was frightening to see how brainwashed the people are there. Some guy was performing eye operations on blind or visually impaired people in North Korea, yet they were giving KJ-I the credit for being able to see again! Un-bloody-believable!Good riddance to a horrible man.

Posts: 2,516December 2011 I just think it's worrying that people are taught that Communism works on a basis of oppressive dictatorship where there is no free speech and that people suffer because of it.I know that it's not to everybody's taste, but Communism as I see it, is defined as 'A political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs'The media however, has twisted it to make it sound like some evil form of politics.

Posts: 2,450December 2011 Andy, it is not so much the Media that has formed people's perception of communism as much as what those of us who grew up during the Cold War era under constant fear of nuclear attack from Russia experienced. Whilst on the subject of communism however, could you give me one example of a country wher it has actually worked ?

No, I don't believe China is a Communist state now. I believe it once was, but not now. Maybe in practice it hasn't worked, but in theory, you can't argue, it's a good ideal. If it was to be put into practice as it's defined, then I think it could work. Unfortunately, that's not likely. I think had Che Guevara not been murdered by the Bolivian CIA, we would be a lot closer to true Communism, he and Castro working side-by-side would have been interesting to see. -

Andy, coming back to your opening sentence here, just to close this debate out and leave you under no llusion about communism, name me ONE Communist country, past or present, which was not or is not led by an oppressive dictator and where freedom of speech was/is permitted ?

The reason it doesn't work in practice is because it hasn't been practiced in its true form. The problem is, and this I do accept, is that it probably will never work because people are too greedy, too corrupt. I don't believe the theory to be a crock of sh.it at all, I think it's a great theory, but until it's carried out in its true form, it will never be true Communism.'A slave begins by demanding justice and ends by wanting to wear a crown'. -

You have a theory, that has never been implemented anywhere in the world successfully, nor is it ever likely to be, so, by definition,

I do accept that it will be hard to bring true Communism, whereby people are paid according to their abilities and needs.But I don't see how even that would be difficult to implement.Everyone should be paid as equally as the next person. What a footballer earns, should be what a tradesman earns in my opinion.Just for the record, I would describe my political thinking as Socialist with Communist tendencies mixed in.

You also say that a footballer should be paid the same as a tradesman, so your theory is that , for the sake of argument, a footballer in the lower divisions should be paid the less than the leading Premiership striker (less ability) yet they should both earn the same as a house painter ?
I actualy believe that you should embrace capitalism ! Its your kind of ideology ! It really is the case that the harder you work at school and the brighter and more industrious you are early in your career, the further you will go in life, be more able and earn more than those with less ability !
