O.K. so I may have a little sympathy for the plight of some public sector workers, the people who take our garbage away, the nurses who work long unsociable hours for relatively low pay etc. but Teachers !!! FFS ! They opt for that job
because of the Monday to Friday office hours, ridiculously long paid holidays and no accountability !

Most end up in that profession because they are too thick to get a job in the private sector and as the old saying goes
" Those who can, do , and those who can't, Teach "

As someone who has two members of my family who are a school teacher and University lecture, I couldn't tell you how far wrong you really are!

If, as it sounds like, you are suggesting that teachers only do 9-5 Monday-Friday, then you're incorrect. They come home and more often than not, only have time to make their teas/dinners (depending on which part of the country you're from) and then it's back to the slog. The hours of preparation for lessons, the marking, the admin work, it's amazing how much work these people actually do for the benefit of their families and the people they teach. Also, more often than not, they'll not even get a lunch break in work because they've so much work to be getting on with, and people should realise how much work they do, and how much they sacrifice to do their jobs and to provide for their families. And trust me, unless you're a professor of something, you really don't get that great a wage. OK, better than some, but it's a myth to say that teachers/lecturers get paid loads.

In terms of accountability, it's up to the teacher to ensure that a child gets a good education. If a child does not get a good education, then questions will be asked of the teacher. Also, during school time, you have to realise that the teacher will be accountable for anything that happens to a child so bare that in mind.

It is the same with office jobs, the work isn't just restricted to office hours, they've got to work for as long as they are required to, otherwise the job isn't being done effectively and they suffer for it.

I had an idea that you were looking to bait me, and well done so you did, but I still think that many people are genuinely unaware of how much work teachers/lecturers put in.

I am also prepared to admit, that yes I'm a bit slow on the uptake.
