    David Moyes is expecting a long season ahead for Everton due to the lack of a 15-20 goals a season striker.

    Everton started the season sluggishly but consecutive wins against Bolton Wanderers and Wolves have lifted the team up to ninth place in the Premier League, although the gap to seventh-place Arsenal is seven points.

    Financial problems have limited Moyes’ spending capabilities, and fans have protested against owner Bill Kenwright.

    The top scorer at Goodison Park so far this term is Apostolos Vellios with three goals and Moyes is aware that without being able to spend big on new players, the Merseyside club could be in for a difficult season.

    "I always thought this would be a hard season," Moyes said in The Sun.

    "We have the core of a good team, with young up-and-coming midfielders, but we haven't got someone who is going to score 15-20 goals a season.

    "We need to get to 40 points like every other team and then see where we can go from there."

    Beattie just didn't cut it......

    Johnson did alright to begin with, then a combination of injuries along with Wenger telling refs he was a diver, meant we no longer got any peno's...so his goalscoring ability was diminished.........we sold him for a profit!....

    Yakubu was great for about a year...then got a serious injury...and then became incredibly unprofessional when he didn't get the West Ham transfer that he wanted.....

    i have high hopes for the lad.....his workrate and attitude is superb......and he seems to have the nack of being in the right place at the right time.....Moyes might just have found another gem.....

    I hope he doesn't play Saha against Stoke, I'm sick of watching him fail! It's time for Vellios to be give a proper run of games to show us (even more so) what he can do.

    Its not about the money, its about who he has bought and how the turned out! I would say his success rate is under 20%........  How cant you see this???????????     Problem is, he was apparently close to buying Jo for £18m until City bought him.

    I do not believe Moyes could buy a Striker who would score 15+ goals a season (more than 1 season), even if he had lots of money. He does not play a system which would allow it.

    It is Moyes fault, not because he is short of money, because the way his tactics are. I am not saying he plays the wronge tactics, he just is unlikely to get a free scoring striker.
