Everton man should have gone, too - Robinson

PAUL Robinson claims David Wheater is not the only player who should have been sent off by referee Michael Oliver at the Reebok.

The full back was left seeing stars after catching an elbow from Everton’s Seamus Coleman five minutes before half time, with the scoreline still goalless.

And he believes that if Wheater was to see red from the 26-year-old Northumberland official for his challenge on Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, then so should the Republic of Ireland international.

“We’re not in a good position at the moment, but the referees are not helping, are they?” fumed the experienced defender.

“If he can send Wheats off for that tackle then he can send off their player for elbowing me in the head.

“It’s a red card. I didn’t know, but apparently the referee saw it at half time and said he made the wrong decision and should have sent him off.

“I could have been knocked out but luckily I wasn’t.

“I had double vision but I just got up and got on with it.

“I didn’t see it but people said it was an elbow. If it was an elbow, it’s a red card – simple.”

Robinson stopped short of appealing for retrospective action to be taken against Coleman, claiming the real damage had already been done with the 2-0 defeat.

“What can they do. It’s too late anyway because we lost the game 2-0,” he said.

“Maybe had it been 10 v 10 it could have been a different game. But it wasn’t and we have got to pick ourselves up for the next game.

“I don’t know what they are seeing at the moment. It is making our job a lot tougher.

“When you play against a team of Everton’s quality with 10 men, you know you will get broken down. And we did.”

Regardless of Wanderers’ current feelings of injustice and misfortune, Robinson is sure Owen Coyle will lead the club back up the table.

“We’re not scoring enough goals and we are not defending properly as a team but we have to stick together as a group, pull our socks up and dig in when we need to,” he said.

“It’s going to be a tough task but we’ve got to do that away at Spurs next week.

“We have to start grinding outresults, starting at Tottenham.

“We’re shocked, disappointed and angry with ourselves because we know we are good enough. We shouldn’t be in the position we are in and we won’t be by the end of the season. We will be out of it.

“At the moment, though, things are not going for us; whether it’s referees’ decisions or mistakes costing us games. We have to stick together and we will fight for each other.”

From what I saw on MOTD we would have felt hard done by if it had happened to one of our players!

i agree, the ref should use his common sense and jsut give a yellow card, there was no intent, jsut a mis timed tackle cos he over ran the ball, could have happened to anyone!

and said tackle could have easily put Bilyaletdinov out for a long time. Intent doesn't really matter, it was reckless and mistimed.

I was not talking about the tackle, I was talking about Colemans elbow.

Robinson is a dirty player at the best of times. I have no time for him. Move along people, move along! Nothing to see here.
