Jesus, forgot about her. She's still got it, it never left her.

Was relieved when I saw it, thought it might be one of the Frosties crew doing the Macarena.

The big fields you mean? They are muddy and some are full of sheep. Horses are a pain in the backside, one keeps getting her shoe off which means she can't work, mind you she does have Irish blood in her so that'll be why. Sick of paying farrier. Nearly knackered the tractor hydraulic grabber, ponds under seige from herons and one of my dogs has terrorised Arley Hall whilst on a canine bender. All in all, I wouldn't recommend it at all. Got a horse to sell if you're interested.

That sounds very much like hard work.

Sheep sound like a good move though.

Are the herons eating the fish you stocked to ponds with? How are to trying to get rid?

I'll pass on the horse, but I here the french are keen buyers...

Don't think the herons are getting the fish. Theres a few million frogs/toads in the same area so they might be at them. Gonna shoot them as soon as I get my shotgun licence.

Do you know how many fish you had? Or put in?

Herons can go through fish at a frightening rate...

I'll not be attending any BR meat ups.... but its fair to say that I'd pay a reasonable sum of money to watch feeds shoot herons, take them to his barn and then slit them open, like that shark in Jaws, in the hope of him saving some of the carp he stocked his lake with at considerable cost... In fact, I'd even arrange the refreshments myself!

I'm kind of hoping the fish are intelligent enough to stick to the deeper water. Either that or I'll have to buy a Pteryodactyl to keep the herons away.

Maybe they will. Although carp make good fishing because the grow to be great big lumps and are very stupid.

Get a gun out there quick... and play hard ball too, shot one by the pond and leave it there for a few days. Most species are quickly put off a place to eat upon seeing a member of there kin laying dead by the side of it.

Any thoughts on the pig front?

Problem is, theres foxes, badgers and more buzzards than you can shake a stick at. The dead Heron would be gone overnight. Theres half eaten rabbits all over the bloody place. Saw a dead badger in the road the other day, honestly thought it was a sheep at first sight. It was bloody huge.

The pig thing I'm not sure of, because the plan is to bring more horses on next spring and don't want to ruin the fields. Theres a field about half a mile away which has grown out of hand, I'm thinking of enquiring about that to pit some pigs on. Its about 5 acres.

Big badgers are a surprise in the flesh aren't they. Sounds like you have quite the nature reserve around there.

Seriously, I'd be looking at the pig thing if I were you....you really don't need much land for pigs at all, but if you can give them two living areas, one water, food and mud bath...other to sleep and hide from the elements which is connected by a gateable*  run of say 30 meters plus, maybe around the corner of a field, then you'll have very happy pigs indeed. You'd be able to do that eaiserly inside one acre with room to spare.

Try it with weaners first as the easy option... if you like it you can think about making up another fenced off (but much more securely) area for keeping a bore. Which is the tough part, keeping him fed and happy and gettting him in and out of the other pen with the females in it. But that is something that you might want to avoid.

*Gated at the sleeping end so you can lock then in there at night and put their food out in the morning without having then nip your heels. Plus the ability to seperate them for a variaty of reasons is a very good thing.
