St Helens Town (North West Counties League Premier Division) will play hosts to Everton in the Liverpool Senior Cup on Tuesday 15th November at Ashton Town FC (Edge Green Street, Ashton-in-Makerfield), kick off 7.45pm

The Liverpool Senior Cup tie against Everton is the first meeting between the clubs in the competition since it was opened up to non-league teams almost 35 years ago and the first time the two have met since Everton were our illustrious visitors to Town’s former Hoghton Road ground in October 1988 when the ‘Toffees’ helped commemorate the ‘switching-on’ of the club’s new floodlights.

Hopefully we will get a decent turnout especially as it's international week! Admission is £5.00 for adults and £3.00 concessions. A commemorative programme is being produced at £1.50.

    -----------------

Leave the M62 at the Croft Interchange (Jct 10) then follow the M6 North to Junction 23, taking the A49 to Ashton-in-Makerfield. Turn right at the traffic lights onto the A58 towards Bolton. After approx. three quarters of a mile, turn right into Golbourne Road. After 200 yards turn right into Edge Green Street. Ground at bottom of street. (Ashton Town FC)

Postcode for the ground is WN4 8SL

    I hope this helps?

Some of this is wrong. The last meeting between St Helens Town and Everton wasn't in 1988, it was a pre-season game in July 1996. I was with a girl from St Helens at that time who lived just round the corner from their old Houghton Road ground and was there that night. It was mainly the kids who played and the only notable names were Cadamarteri and Branch, they were upfront for us.

Your absolutely right we did play Everton in 1996 - I took my original details from a colleague who was preparing an article about Town and Everton in the Liverpool Senior Cup. I wouldn't mind I too was at the 1996 game - in fact I was the progamme editor at the time!!

A lad i knew called Alan Hockenhull played upfront for St Helens Town in that 1996 game. Don't think i've seen him since that night, and he was an Evertonian himself.

If memory serves me right Alan signed for Exeter City not long after the friendly with Everton (a recommendation from the game possibly). He eventually drifted back into non League football with the likes of Witton Albion.

You can never be sure with games in the Liverpool Senior Cup but we are hoping it will be a strong line-up - Everton haven't finalised the team and we are again hopeful we will get some coverage on the official website.

The game has finally made it to fixture list for the Reserves after a bit of prompting - hopefully we will see a few Blues tomorrow evening?

You're nearly right with Alan Hockenhull. He was recommended to Exeter by Alan Ball (their former manager) after Man City had played a friendly at Houghton Road while Ball was City boss. I used to know him in the early to mid 90s but long since lost touch.

Anyway why are St Helens Town FC not moving into the new Saints ground being built in your town? I was under the impression when you moved out of Houghton Road and into Knowsley Road you would be moving into any new ground St Helens RLFC built?
