Nil Satis Nisi Optimum

Everton FC - one of only 7 teams that have played every season in the Premiership, a team that has played more top-filght games than any other team and that has won the league 9 times, the fourth most of any club.

A team that has sported names such as Kendall, Harvey and Ball - THe holy trinity, one of the greatest keepers of all time in Big Neville and players who epitomised our motto "Nil Satis Optimum" or "Nothing but the best is good enough" - The names roll off the tongue - Dixie Dean, Bob Latchford, Kevin Ratcliffe, Dave Hickson, Ted Sagar to name a few more.

A club steeped in history and greatness and known for their attacking football and being fearless of those around them, willing to go toe to toe with whomever they faced with the belief that they could take on anyone and win....

The same team who's inept manager plays 1 up front at home against a newly promoted team and loses 1-0 at home. The same team who at stages in their season often have no strikers on the pitch with said manager choosing to play midfielders up front.

Poor formation, poor subsitutions and a desire to survive and avoid defeat rather than a desire to win.....

I think David Moyes AND some of his players need to read up on their latin.....otherwise i truly fear for our great club.

    great post.
Moyes manages his team to 'not get beat' first then 'win' second. too negative and i feel he must change or go. ok we got 4th place with nicking games 1-0 but football has changed. Moyes has not and we are going backwards. Mcfadden??? really?? he's havin.a f in.laugh

I know mate - I actually felt sick when I saw McFadden coming on - A ratio of 1 goal in 10 games...... what was he ever going to do in the last 10 mins of that match?

It's already the case for some of our strike force (McFadden & Anichebe)

Also, interesting to note that this club of great tradition has no number 9!!!

Keeping to the theme of irony we should give the number 9 shirt to Hibbo.

OGV - To have a number 9 would mean having aother striker - Couldn't be doing that surely? I mean surely you'd have to play your number 9 every game....and as stated sometimes Moyes prefers the idea of just playing 6 midfielders with no strikers.

Maybe he'll shut us up and give the number 9 shirt to a central defender.

I thought we were re-signing Marcus Bent though. Moyes is getting excited with his money.

A smile always helps and confidence in the squad, as in when evertonians roar in the goodison park, it's obvious even when it shows on the telly that it affects the squad performance (I always have wished to be there, and will be one day and help in the roar!).

Otherwise, our squad of internationals quality can't be questioned when you look at other many many clubs, the list is long!

The windows is always an opportunity to do some right things, in january it was Vellios, good looking out to the greek kid.

It could've looked better as Pienaar left and someone shoulda filled his place, but we can always be optimistic about the next window.

We've been unlucky yes, we've been lucky too. Felli will be back. Other lads in the squad will get their run of games, be patient. Wish for something that needs to be improved, it's healthy -> hopefully it'll get heard, and the chances are they can be fulfilled, what is a squad for anyway? We'll get to see everybody.

    The motto demands belief.

I don't even want to be ironic, I say keep believing or start believing again.

I'm still proud of this club, but like never before. MOYB. Move on you blues.

I struggle to understand the rationale behind McFadden. Davey could be turning into a Walter Smith figure, but without a history of success.........
