To be fair, he wanted to go and we couldn't keep hold of him in the end. I thought that we could have got a bit for for him though because I think the deal was £20M rising to £23M. Surely we could have got £30M at least.

Lescott was good for us, but I still don't think he is worth £25M to be honest.

Lescott is laughing at EFC fans now coz he`s playing regularly and top of the league. for me i cant blame anyone for wanting to leave Everton but its just the manner in which they do it that bugs me. Lescott, Pienaar, Arteta

    rooney deal was especially poor.

10m up front then 10m the year after, 3m in 2007 and another 1-2m in add ons.

thats 24-25m for an 18 year old that was already better then most strikers in the prem, he was even one of the best players in euro2004 while he was still with us.

and before anyone says the transfer values were low for top players at that time. zidane 53m in 2001, figo 44m in 2000 crespo 38m 2001, ferdinand 30m 2002

and as for lescott 24m the money was spent badly, bily and hetinga was most of the money both are now squad players, and distin will be 34 next month and his contract is up soon.

Redknapp kept hold of modric for one more season, ferguson kept hold of cristiano ronaldo for 1 more season when they both wanted to leave.  If we had kept rooney for 1 more season we would of got more money for him, but moyes isnt this type of manager

If we had kept Rooney we wouldn't of got the players we did for the price we did.. You know the players used to get into 4th place for example.
Rooney slapped in a transfer request and was more than ready to do a Lescott.. Moyes and the board did exactly the right thing and selling him transformed our club.
The wasted money from Lescott is only partly so, we still replaced him with a CB that is our best CB by a mile even though he is getting on. Heittinga will increasingly become part of the team now and Billy will get us £50 back.. The only bad signing for me and even he scored us several decent goals.
Also Ferguson and Redknapp are part of teams in the CL and have large sums of money to spend.
20+mil is too much to turn down for a club in the position we were in.
