Theres a few senior members on here - naming on names  ;)

Its come to me attention that there are companies going round telling elderly folk that they can avoid care home costs by putting there homes on trust for their family. All for a reasonable sized fee.... £1-3k!!!

Just wondering if anyone has experienced anythin like this? Some tool is tryin to fleece a member of me extended family...

Not sure what the current situation is but there is some truth to it.
Used to work for the council in a horrible job dealing with direct debits etc for care homes... or another way of  putting it.. debt collecting on old people. If you were the elderly or infirm person in question and you have a house and money they will charge full rate of around 1k a week(month? can't remember now it was just over 10 years ago) out of your finances and then force the sale of the house to keep the payments up.. this continues until... what was then... a 16k limit on your finances at which point it lowers in cost until your skint then they give you 30 quid a week or some miserly sum and pay for your accommodation.
Its a horrible system but when Social Services are losing 10s of millions a week, they have to fleece who they can. You could  bypass this by 'giving' your home and money to a relative which is what most did.

That's my knowledge on it anyway.

There are anti avoidance provisions to stop people deliberately trying to avoid paying. The companies selling these "inheritance protection trusts" use a bit of inheritance tax planning spin - avoid paying inheritance tax. Thing is, most people wont have an estate worth anywhere near the threshold for paying tax, so the line these companies are using to sell their trusts is absolute nonsense.

Aye, its a shoite but being in my line of work I'm the first person people come to when they think someone is or might be being scammed. Too much exposure to the orrible gits that prey off societies fears...

Well in this case, a distant family member is lining up for one of these scammers to come n see me missus' aunty. I've told 'em I'll be there and waiting for him. See what he's gotta say image
