Cup more important than the league?

Been reading people's posts about whether we will field a weaker team tonight with half an eye on the league match against Man Utd on Saturday, but was thinking...
the gap between us and the teams with shed loads of money these days means its very unlikely we will finish top 5, even 6th doesnt gurantee European footy, but a Carling cup win would right?

Surely we should be concentrating on the cups this season, quicker route to Europe.. at the cost of finishing mid table mediocrity .. but being in Europe next season may mean being able to attract better players during the summer to have a better crack at the league with.

Or is that a moot point anyway because its doubtful we would have the cash to go for the players who would want to play for us/have European footy..?

I think we should b putting out our strongest team in all cup matches has i think it is our best chance of european football next season especially how teams r spending so much on players and strengthening there teams worrying times ahead has much has i hate to say it.
