Defensive Mid, Formation and our style of play

I think we could do with a Lee Carsley character. Someone who just go stuck and did his job. There was never anything fancy about Carsley he just kept it solid at the back and allowed the other midfielders to attack.

At the moment we're playing both Rodder and Felli at defensive and it is limiting our attack mean we are always on the defensive.

    Before:
    LM - CM - CM - RM
    - - - - - - DM

    Now:
    - - - - - AM
    LM - - - - - - - RM
    - - - DM - DM

Now the wingers are stranded because the AM Cahill is getting in the area and rightly so (playing to his strength) but with BOTH DMs sitting back their only option is an overlap from the full backs. In the past the 4 midfielders infront of Carsley were able help to attack and get forward. This offered each one of those midfielders options on the ball as they could go left, right or forward to the striker.

What we could do with the player we have
    Drenthe - Rodwell - Cahill - Coleman
    - - - - - - - - - - - Fellaini

And Osman, Barkley, Bilyaletdinov could easily be put in that midfield to change our style of pay. Instead of charging down the wings which we are doing now, we could play it to the wings instead. This style of play isn't just limited to the wings either because we could play it inside and shoot or play a through ball for the striker whoever it may be.

I think it would work better for the strikers too. Vellios and Stracqua man are decent target that are also good on the ball and Vellios seems to know where the back of the net is. Saha is decent in the air for crosses and he loves coming short for the ball bringing more players into the game.

And Anichebe could blame the fact he's still failing is due to the fact he's upfront on his own ;)

I know a lot of you are screaming for 2 upfront but this formation has done us wonders in the past and I believe it could do wonders in the near future. COYB!!!

yes i agree with this partly, however cahil has not performed this season and offers very little when he isnt scoring, if we played vellios/straq with saha upfront i believe we could play that passing and possession game we use to play. gueye and drenthe on the wings for me against fulham put them on the back foot!
