    Duncan Ferguson returns to Everton

    image

Duncan Ferguson is on course for a surprise Everton comeback - as a coach.

The Goodison legend is missing the game after living in self-imposed exile since retiring as a player five years ago, and is now studying for his coaching badges.

As part of that process, the former Scotland striker has been back at the Blues' training ground, learning the ropes from academy coach Alan Irvine.

Everton manager David Moyes has revealed there is a chance the iconic centre-forward could one day be back at Goodison on a more permanent basis if he gets his qualifications.

"Duncan came about a month ago and met me. He wants to observe us and see what's going on. He is back and helping Alan Irvine," Moyes explained.

"He is not a qualified coach yet, because he is going through his badges, but we have got him in and he's happy to do the time and he's working down at the academy.

"He is showing he really wants to do it. He is putting the hours and the effort in.

"He still has to get his B licence and A licence, but he will get the chance to take some sessions."

Ferguson is a long way from being offered a job at Everton, but Moyes accepts his fellow Scot's legendary status among the Blue faithful could lead him to get the call one day.

"It could lead to something here, but what you need is your qualifications, that is the first thing," the manager added.

"I have to say I didn't forsee him going into coaching when I had him as a player.

"But Duncan has been away for five years and he has come back - I think he misses the smell of football a wee bit.

"If you look at the Everton legends in the eyes of the fans, coupled with the greats of Peter Reid, Neville Southall, Kevin Ratcliffe, Graeme Sharp and that crew, then Duncan is maybe the only one who could put himself close to those players."

This is the most exciting thing I've woken up to in the last five years! I love Duncan Ferguson. I remember the day he left us for Newcastle, was one of the worst days of my life, in hospital in a hip spica, fed up and one of the nurses came in to tell me that. Gutted. Was buzzing on his return and now this...... Is definitely awesome news! Hopefully if Moyes ever gets sacked, Duncan will be the one to take over.

Milky i think is on a wind up.

Under Alan Irvine the big man could not have a better mentor.

Give him time and you never know what might happen.

How can he be over rated when he is only just starting.
