But they will have a justice campaign, a march, a petition and some fat labour MPs standing up in parliament for them. They may also recruit Clarence the magical duck to charm all fans of wildfowl related ephemera.

No doubt Atkinson and Clattenburg will be the first two names on that petition....

Couldn't believe Ayre said "we have to protect our place in europe"

So what place is that exactly? Don't you have to qualify first, or does, he feel they should have a divine right to be in champions league? (i think we all know the answer to that)

I think the premier league is probably at its limit of sustainability for its current working model. Massive tv deals have been outstripped by massive wages for average players and due to the recession and credit crunch attendances and matchday spending is starting to fall, meaning unless, they have oil money clubs are either tightening their belts or looking for further revenue streams.

Extra money from the foreign rights is an obvious one, however its at the expense of further widening the cash divide, and dilluting the competition.

I feel the clubs should maintain the collective agreement, but look to ways to further the income generated. The premier league should set up its own global internet subscription service to allow people to watch high definition

Streams abroad. you could even have premier league on demand so you could watch any game any time for a fee, to make money out of the, back catalogue of matches

The money will just go to the players and their agents anyway. Then they will need intergalactic tv rights to pay for the next lot. Meanwhile the fans experience will still be sh.ite. They need to bring in sensible salary caps like most other team sports do and put their businesses straight.

I am liking the threat of forming a european superleague... Conveniently forgetting this would leave no place for the big teams biggest cash cow.. The European Champions league. You wouldn't need both would you?

I agree, the game has become boring! It needs to get back to being a sport rather than a business. Its absolutely sick what is happening to football and the greed associated with it! All directed towards inflated ego's for the rich persons play ground, players and clubs are being dragged along.

They either rip this game up (I don't care if it upsets managers, players owners etc) or just get on with a European super league and let all the elite clubs in every country go play elsewhere. I'll be happy to watch a league without the money clubs even if the quality of the football played deteriorates just so it can be competitive again. I lost interest in premiership football ages ago, I love Everton but hate the game right now. Would I be happy if I was a Man Utd or man City fan, I'd say "no" because from a moral perspective I do not agree with whats happening to the game. So I'll stick to managing a local amateur club on a Saturday and a Junior team on sunday then watch the premiership!

Football has become crap from a sporting perspective, good entertainment on your TV but I like my sports to be a sport!

Even some of the RS are saying this now. Obviously the stupid ones will think it's a great idea until Utd steal the whole Market and City use it as a cover to inject more funds and bypass the Fair Play rules. Then the RS become a Bolton.

Who was it that said " The socialism I believe in is everyone working for each other, everyone having a share of the rewards. It's the way I see football, the way I see life."...........

The RS have also conveniently forgotten that they have never won the Premiership, unlike Blackburn who have and could also argue that they now have India stitched up. Maybe Blackburn deserve more money than the RS. Get the latest info at 'Laughing Stocks R US' c/o ynwa

This is a decent piece on how the R's are right to highlight that clubs could make a lot more money selling the rights themselves, giving an unfair advantage to Barca and Real, but its the Spanish way that should change

I said this when J Henry took over the RS,he is a buisnessman pure and simple,he doesn't give a sh#t about LFC or the EPL.He is only looking to make a profit,if he doesn't he will dump them.Especially as his main investment the Red Sux failed to make the play offs this year,he fired his manager and GM.

I think UEFA and the Premier league need to look at systems like they have in Germany, USA etc and take the best bits out of them and create a level playing field for all. Problem is the stupid "European law" which supports the tops clubs because they are businesses ultimately, so it will be hard to change anything. I suppose if Europe did collapse and we all became independant countries again at least then UEFA could introduce new rules, but no doubt a few swift back handers would change that!

The Champions league has become a too bigger competition with too much money, thats why there is so much fixation with it for club owners. If it returned to a Champions knockout cup competiton which it should be, then this might solve a few issues. Reduce the financial gains from the competition and make it more about the glory then the tops clubs may lose their ability to dominate domestically and other teams get a chance. Will never ever happen though!

A squad wage cap limit would be the ideal situation, one which most clubs would be able to reach. All excess money and profits can allow the fans to have cheaper tickets and merchandise, improving facilities or be ploughed into grass roots football. If the premiership has a wage salary cap of £50M per season, it would open it right up for many other clubs! Might be an idea to introduce a maximum transfer spend per season too, and bring these crazy prices down!

We'll have to see how these new financial fair play rules pan out but I reckon they will be useless as best!
