Well I don't agree. We were down to 10 men so someone had to be doubled up on somewhere! If we hadn't shored up the centre, Gerrard would have had a free role in there with him and Lucas doubling on Fellaini. You can't have it both ways!

i think thats mor like qouting th enumbers game rather than the tactical solution you can drive bodies inside so can therefore still have a bank of four..but if you've gpt 2 attackers against 1 defender there's no way you can drive inside..also moyes subsequently moved neville out to rb and "infilled" the centre so what was the point in putting neville in the middle in the first insatnce...only my opinion mind !!

We were defending with 8 men - two banks of four with Saha up top.  They had 2 CB's holding back to cover Saha - that was the doubling up you're talking about. There was no excuse for us to allow Hibbert to be doubled.

If we had had two banks of 4, properly marshaled with Neville out with Hibbert we would have been fine. As we were before Osman went off. Gerrard and Lucas would not have overrun Fellaini because Fellaini was being helped out by Cahill.

That's no different than when we have 11 men on the field. Cahill ALWAYS drops back when we're defending leaving 2 centre backs against our forward. He's also gonna try help us get a goal if he has the opportunity to get forward. This is when Fellaini gets over run!

We wer fine before Osman went off yes. but that was before Gerrard came on! Adam is no Gerrard!

i dont think gerrard made any significant difference tbh..i was dreading him coming on but because they were 1-0 up against 10 men they gave gerrard an easy in .....and he took it ..easy that is...would of been different if lucas had got his second yellow for the obstruction and they'd have been down to ten !!!

It was 0-0 when Gerrard came on and the tactical shuffe his presence prompted is exactly what created the opening down their left!

gerrard didnt make one blind bit of difference - Bellamy did. It was Bellamy with his pace on the wing that caused problems for us; and they exploited a breakdown in communication after Neville came on to get the critical goal.

was it ? could've sworn it was 0-1..... but thats what i'm saying, moyes put neville in the centre .... took ossy off from the right leaving the gap on the right (our right) shudn't have happenned in my opinion..he then switched it around again because he noticed the 2 up scenario.... with drenthe moving from left to right side...basic stuff for me... dont get doubled up and drive inside to where the bodies are........which is what we were doing before the first goal and negated out their "threat"

Beano, I think there is a point in what you say about Gerrard coming on causing concern in the middle. However, it isnt an excuse for the fact that we left our right side with two on Hibbert. Cahill and Fellaini could and should have been sufficient to deal with Lucas and Gerrard.
