Jesus wept.... I think I preferred Newcastle's previous brand of footballing comedy.....I mean fair enough, they forked out a shed load on Owen....Owen the international footballer.....footballers get injured...but even so that kind of made sense in a way....given how dreadfully out of pocket they were on the situation and every week that went by with the player laying prone on a physios tablet, after being flown in by helicopter, having his thighs rubbed and grapes peeled for him by nubile trainees on work experience. Given that then they didn't know at the time that that was to become Owens favoured position.

But this? Surely this is taking it too far.

I'm not sure what to make of that... on the red card versus ref not doing anything. Its a game of football and these things do happen. That said I do remember that Nolan tackle. Odd that it was Victor bring the case and not the club as in this case.

Either way....there is no doubt being reminded of the Victor situation has taken the shine off my 'christ, isn't Pardew a whinging_twunt' indignation...

Haha, yeah I agree though that football needs to he careful here.......already strong "old fashioned" tackles have been banned from the game.....if it gets to the stage were clubs are suing over bad tackles, then we will see the game become a non contact sport completely.....

Another thing on this is, the FA's policy of not acting on a decision because "the ref or linesman saw it but didn't deem it to be a red card offence at the time" is such a farce.....

Its burning platform time on this issue for me.

There is just no point trying to stay with the idea and top level football can be translated to a school field, so long as you have the same number of people, linesmen and ref, etc....its a universal, true and pure game.

Now that goal line technology is going in that myth needs to be dropped and rules for retrospective punishments for diving, violence, missed tackles by the ref and the like need to be sorted out.

But people will mistime tackles and tackling is part of the game.

At least until anti gravity boots, body armour and genetically engineered defenders armed with scythes are prevalent.

I seen it on the internet and it was as blatant a dangerous tackle, similar to the Roy Keane tackle, as I have ever seen. but this suing the club is a hard one to administer . E,G. sue a club like Chelsea or Man united for a million = a drop in the ocean.  A small club could mean it going bankrupt or find it hard to come up with the cash. I say sue the player.

This won't send any team bankrupt, the moment clubs/players started being sued for tackles, the insurance industry popped it's head up from the parapet.

yes but an increase of claims will force the premiums up, and it will effect the smaller clubs more than the big ones

They won't be going bankrupt from it though. SmALLer clubs would be better served by making sure they pay players what they can afford.

You have been able to sue for injuries caused by fouls for years, but i think only if the challenge is punished. Ambulance chasers used to advertise in fourfortwo, i am actually not sure who is sued though, we always paid subs each game and had to register with the fa with id at the start of the season after about 2000 (?) maybe they offered insurance?

I think you are right there... its public liability insurance, same at the cricket club I play at...occasionally.

Well the FA have confirmed they can't do a thing to him for the challenge.

ridiculous......the FA have basically handcuffed themselves with their own daft rule....
