is English national pride being beaten out of us ?

Posts: 16,925March 17 The welsh showed great passion and pride yesterday in their victory and it got me thinking why arent we anymore.
It seems its ok to be proud to be welsh
its ok to be proud to be scottish
and as today proves with sainsburys selling irish bunting and flags its ok to be proud to be welsh
but show any pride in being english and suddenly theres a sour undertone.
You're deemed bnp if you have st george flags on st georges day or during the world cup.

Posts: 2,054March 17 dont know why, but its almost become acceptable to not want to be english..take the england football team for example, there will be english people on this forum during the qualifiers wanting england to lose because most of the england teams english players happen to play for other clubs..what on earth is that all about???? :-?

Posts: 24,753March 19 i'm proud to be English, but like you say Damo, its seems to be a taboo subject, if you say you are, people look at you as if you have 4 heads or something, oooh, your not allowed to be proud of that.....its a strange one mate.......almost like, cos of our history of times gone by, that we are suppose to be embarrassed of our heritage rather that proud of who we are.Whichever way you look at it we are a world super power. those around us probably dont like that so much.

Posts: 1,341March 20 i think people should take a cue from a comedian named george carlin and have no national pride whatsoever wherever you live. as he said the reason he didn't have any pride in being american is because pride is something reserved for an accomplishment not an accident of birth. no harm in appreciating that you could have been born elsewhere but were born into a first world country but i just can't get behind pride for something you didn't earn.

Posts: 284March 20 What sambo said....its your history of violence and atrocities against others and takin what isnt yours...i would not be proud to say my ancestors did that....i am however proud to say my ancestors faught against that type of tyranny and faught for what was theres and what they believed in...and so the same for the scots and welsh and anyone who faught against powers tryin to rule the world through violence....kinda like you did with the germans....unfortunetly yous did what the germans did long before they did.....and that will never be forgotton nor overturned

Nothing wrong with the English pride it's just the welsh are better that's all in rugby anyway.

Posts: 3,636March 20 I know loads of English people and they are far better people than many effin Welsh I know... As Snowcone said, its history blah blah..... Its what the Welsh, Irish and Scots have built against you over many years....Not everyone feels this way, I only hate the English when its directed at Liverpool FC...I love you English mugs.... But obviously the northern humor is close to us in North Wales, not much a fan of southerners to be honest....
