What do you love about Everton?

My family were in Liverpool when Everton were formed and have supported them ever since. I like my dad and his dad before him were born blue; as was my grandad on my mum's side.

I dont know anything other than being a blue. When I was younger (in the 80s) it was easy to support us because we were successful, but is being successful all that being a football fan is about?

For me the moto "Nil Satis, Nisi Optimum" has often been corrupted to mean more than "nothing satisfies, but the best". An arrogance has crept in that means we now say "nothing but the best is good enough" and that moto is used to justify arguing about the ownership of the club etc. For me, it means that so long as those 11 men that take to the field on Saturday give their best then I will be satisfied - win, lose or draw. Football begins and ends on the pitch, without the performances there is no football. So, if those 11 players are all rubbish, I will follow them, into the conference if that is where they end up, just so long as those 11 players give 100%.

So, what do I love about Everton?

    I love blue
I love hearing the Z-cars as the boys take to the field. A feeling that no other fan can experience.
I love it when we the fans unite in song.
Win lose or draw, I love that nearly 40k fans standing around me feel the same as me.
I love the grand old lady that is Goodison Park with her quirky restricted views.

Everton was the first premier league team I ever watched and I immediately fell in love with them. What hooked me was the fact that we never gave up even tho we were losing badly. It was that sense of team spirit and camaraderie that gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside and I knew that I was born a blue and always would be one. I also loved the fact that after that kind of loss, the whole stadium cheered and clapped for their team. Because even in a loss, they played hard and deserved to be treated like winners.

In good times and bad, I will always be an Evertonian....Born a blue, Die a blue.

The history, the tradition, the values, the hard-working attitude, the Z-Cars, the support (even though often frustrating), the fact that we are Everton, the School of Science, The Dogs of War is enough for me to love my club! When I think of Everton, phrases and names like the School of Science, Dogs of War, The Toffees, Golden Vision, Alex Young, Dixie Dean, Howard Kendall, Harry Catterick, Davey Moyes, Neville Southall, Duncan Ferguson, Graeme Sharp are just a few that come to my mind.

Wonder when tickets will post on this topic?

For me, it's the tradition and history, our indomitable sprit that has stuck with us down the years...and the years upon years of talking to fans at matches , sharing the highs and lows.

For ME Everton is all I know - my father and his uncle were the only blues in a large family of Reds from Bootle - and when I was born he was having me Blue and no other way.........Simply put I Love Everton because it makes me proud and it makes me feel different.....I can't of course talk of how other supporters feel but I know that my entire personality is algined with Everton - when we lose I hate it and feel sadness - when we win I often feel relieved and happy - when we win a Derby I feel justified and happy.........As an individual I often feel mis-understood and awkward as I am constantly percieved to be under-achieving ...very much like Everton.........but that is to mis-understand both myself and the team I Love.

We both (I think and hope) do our best to be more than we are and if that is sometimes not good enough then you can not doubt our effort (Now not being good enough all the time however is a different point altogether) ..... I love Everton because it looks beyond itself and does try to do the best it can ....but not just for itself but for the greater good...........if you doubt this,  just take a look at what Everton have given Football and what it continues to do in and around Liverpool.

Also Everton (Like me) - are currently fighting an identity crisis.....on one hand we appreiciate the need for change ...but on the other hand loathe the idea of being like everyone else and selling our souls and losing what makes us special and different ...but I believe we are taking on this process in a dignified and honest way .........I for one do not doubt that our Chairman (Like most fans) loves our club .....I also believe he would do nothing but try his best on it's behalf ......and that it is easy to throw stones about honesty and loyality and greed, when things are not going well but without that type of love at the top.......we'll lose a bit of what we are and 'll lose a bit of who I am.

Like Everton I hope to come through this tough time but do it the right way and one that has a little an impact on who I truely am ..........Again though I do understand that just because you love something and try hard doesn't mean you're good enough ....so please do mis-understand I do think Everton (And therefore myself) need to change ....I just want to change in a way that enables us to hold to what makes us great!!

But listen I'm not an idiot (Although having read this back ....i do sound kind of daft) I do appreciate that every other fan of every other club can say the same things and just by me saying these things doesn't make them more true to us.....but I love this team for the above reasons and they are part of who I am and, very much like a best friend or a close relative, without them .... I would not be the person I am .....that is without doubt true as overly sentimental as it may sound.

I think that's enough of my confusing ramblings.........I think what I've just done is prove to you all why I am sometimes mis-understood but also how confusing it can be when you're in love!!!

I reckon his answer will be when Gerrard scores against us.
