You were very quiet Shhhhhhhhhh. LOL
Well done, you were better side, ref didn't help though, he was terrible. If Jose had netted when he hit the post could have been different. But think most of us will be rooting for you in next round, great night, great atmosphere, had a good laugh with your fans before game and didnt see a hint of trouble. "Oh when the Blues............" lol

Der, the penalty??? harsh is an understatement, offsides galore, free kicks everytime one of your lot slipped or fell over? Why do you think we were cheering like we'd scored if a decision went our way and almost 4000 singing referee's a w*****
    he was ****

in all fairness mate, the game was refereed in a premier league manner tonight, the game at your place was refereed in a league 1 way, i dont mean that to sound disrespectful, but, the refereeing at your place was horrific, they say that it balances itself out over the course of a season though so maybe that was it?

Fair comment actually that mate, being used to our league and the more physical old school style of football and the prem with the more european way ie: and I dont mean disrespect also, fairy football, more skillfull and slicker but losing the fact that this is a contact sport. Never actually thought about that when we get the odd demoted prem ref at our games. lol

no disrespect taken mate, you have hit the nail on the head with what you say, both sets of fans will be used to having games refereed in a certain way, and when it isnt refereed in the way we are used to, its hard to understand/accept :)

Well lets face it it's their cup final day out! It might be because the away fans are under the TV gantry, when your in the Street end, they don't sound louder to me? I don't care if the away fans are louder anyway, as long as we score more goals than they do!

Yep, it was our cup final, and we were gracious in defeat, but cos tv gantry was in our end doesnt make us sound louder? they use cameras and mics, not camcorders with mic on end. We were louder, we enjoyed it more, if you support Oldham you cant let the odd loss get you down, we support em cos we love football n Oldham, if we were like Man Ure or City fans and just cared about cups n titles i'd be gone. We've been on cloud 9 for 4 weeks, now we'll be happier beating Sheff Utd than beating you. If you wanna spend yer money watching yer team in silence and criticise every mistake go ahead, if you wanna enjoy watching your team good or bad then get behind em, make a noise, show em, oh yeah, learn or make up another song cos the one that you have was feeling very lonely. Embarrassing the way a league one club out singing us at home !

escla, without reading the other posts, i've heard it said on the telly by the_shitty commentators/guest mitherers that the away support always sounds louder in goodison because of where the mics/cameras are

i'm not sayin its true like, but i can sort of half agree, all the media_crap is on the bullens side of the ground, on that suspended/not very safe/commentary bit

This mic situation is Evertons fault in my book. It also shows how poorly Everton FC handle the clubs PR.

Situation: you work for a TV company that have paid for the rights to a Carling/FC cup fixture. It's a lower league vs premier league enouter.

Make no bones about it you are hoping for a david and goliath result.... a giant killing, regardless of the premiership team involved.

You ensure that the commentators talk up the lower league team through out....to be frank the nonsense spoken about the Gibson incident was nothing short of embarrassing... And you put the mics near the away fans so you can make the most of their fans efforts. You help paint a picture that will get people switching on and turning over to see... this epic cup upset!

Simple. That is where the largest audience, and the money, is.

To be honest, going strictly back to the mic issue, even if Liverpool were playing Everton at Goodison you would, as a TV company, put the mics next to the away fans if you could because you'd be playing to the largest audience available for that fixture... and this thread makes it obvious how much the noise volume of a clubs fans is important to their supports.

Solution: Its Everton Ground and they can do what they like although granted the sound equipment is the responsibility of the companies who have bought the rights.

Everton pick a small selection of official sound mic spots (all favouring the home fans top a degree) and build in the cabling that takes that input and relays it to the media box.

When a TV company turns up Everton say, "right, you can plug your sound equipment into any of these purpose built sites....and nowhere else.  job done.

But, in all seriousness, wherever the mics are placed, you have to actually make a noise to be heard?? I was in lower tier, ceiling was about 12 ft, stifles sound but we were still heard, regardless of mics, I heard 1 song 3 times from your fans after each goal. I assume most on hear moaning about mics were watching on tv? I sent a text to a mate who's a toffee in your end after game congratulating em, his text back was "your fans were fantastic" nuff said.

Completely agree with you... I'm not saying that you could not hear Everton fans singing because of the position of the mics....especially when what you could hear clearly was "2-0 and you still won't sing".

Just that Everton don't handle their own PR well and have fallen foul of this before. To the extent that fans coming back from the match have been shocked at the suggestion that they were overwhelmingly out sang through out a home game like a Liverpool match mentioned in that post.

I suppose the point I was making was more of the interests of the TV company concerned and their advertisers and nothing to do with Oldham per say.

You on the other hand have conducted yourself very well on this forum and paint a great picture of Oldham's fan base. Credit to you.

One comment I would make about our fans and not signing though, is expectation. As with many fans of Premiership clubs these days we have become spoilt. It may well have been your cup final as you say but our fans expect a premiership side like ours to put a club like Oldham to bed with little fan fair. It didn't work out like that....requiring two legs and it could very easily been a different score line had Baxter got a better connection on his shot. When you take the reality of the situation in context with the premier league pampered expectation... they simply had nothing to sing about, in relative terms.
