    Catholic Church: cardinal errors

Whatever the outcome of the allegations made against Cardinal Keith O'Brien, the evidence remains that Rome has a special problem with sex

"It is also important to acknowledge that despite having been "resigned" (or, more precisely, "prematurely retired") by the Vatican, Cardinal O'Brien has contested the allegations, which is what the claims reported by the Observer remain. But, stepping back from the specifics of this case, one cannot brush off the evidence that Rome has a special problem with sex. In the Vatican itself, even if one discounts innuendo about Pope Benedict XVI's own proclivities as he hangs up his cassock, that cleric – who has denounced both homosexuality and masturbation as moral disorders – has indubitably been weakened by the perception that he looked away in some cases where priests abused boys. In the US and more particularly Ireland, the institution has been shaken by the failure of so many priests to live up to the chaste ideal that the church has long (though not always) imposed upon (most but not all) of its priests."

are these guys really religious? do they practice Jesus Christs teachings at all?

well, well, well, the cardinal has changed his tune.

he was going to sue everyone in sight for these unfounded allegations.

now he's admitted them all and is retiring into a life of solitude and prayer.

This Scottish cardinal situation. For me its not just that he denied them.... then had his_arse handed to him, shortly followed by his humiliating step down. Its also that some of his victims also exclaimed hurt at his being promoted... that the very recognition of the church seemed to pain the abused even more so.

Granted, I'm jumping to a conclusion here but I wouldn't be surprised if the cardinal himself had been abused during his time in the church. Maybe by a few who greased the path of his promotion. It looks to be endemic.

Maybe thats how you climb up the churches managerial tree... starting off as a choir boy, paying your dues... then there is the initiation ceremony at the vicars house...and christ knows how many old men to appease on en-route via pastor, priest, arch bishop and cardinal. No wonder the Pope is generally sat down... you'd imagine its only that chair that stops his innards from falling out his backside.

I can only imagine the self loathing that would induce in you. Your tory leanings clashing violently with jihadists claiming benefits in the UK...
