The psychological 'myth' of the top 4 in the Premier League...........

It is just an illusion that fools everyone, from the fans, to players a like.......its a psychological hoodoo that people think it cannot be broken. When people think something, it gets in their heads, if something is in your head its very hard for it to get out.

Fergie has done it for years at Man Utd, Beano has said many times there has been occasion when their team hasnt been that good, yet the hoodoo that Fergie has built up around them leaves teams (and fans) with a mental block that they cant or wont be beaten........

The same thing has happened and/or been allowed to happen by the media, they them selves have created a similat 'top 4' hoodoo, and again it is psychological imo, people think that it can't be broken, if we as fans think it, then it gets in the players heads also and they will think it, we are only human afterall........

If there was no league table, and the games were judged by a panel of neutral experts every week, and the results of which were locked away every week until the end of the season, and when it came round, the team that had produced the best performances week in week out (not necessarily the team that has won the most), on a performance related scale of judging, the whole hoodoo of looking at a league table and saying 'we cant get to the top' OR 'we cant break top 4' would not exist because the players would be playing to show how good they are and not playing to TRY (and you can try too hard) and get to the top of the league.

That maybe only sounds a bit like jargon, BUT, inbetween the 'madness' of what i say, the point im making is that the 'hoodoo' that surrounds football is all psychological, and it can be broken, its about training people's minds to think differently that's all......

    what a bunch of tosh

the top 4 have changed in recent years and the league tends to sort itself out by the end of the season.

If people were purely judged on performance teams would play differently and play 11 creative players who would just pass the ball all day without worrying about scoring

in essence poor thread should be deleted

plus we would have been bottom half after the southampton and United displays

The psychological aspects of the game is oft overlooked... United are a prime example of that... As are that dirty shower of shi.te from across the park when they played in Europe (in the past)... United can put out kids who believe they can win... and they do... You could put a team of monkeys in liverpool shirts in europe and they'd win (until Brendan took over)...

you miss the point i feel Milky.

After the Southampton and United displays we wouldnt be bottom, because there wouldn't be any form of league table until the results of performance's were released at the end of the season. And then it would be an accumulation of 'performance points' that have been judged over the course of the season.
