4 - 5 - 1.. Why are we playing this formation at home against **** teams?

    Because we're not a 4-4-2 team and only a few teams play that formation

    I'm more worried about the next 5 games. We haven't really played anyone good yet.

    It's a fair point though.

    We started 451 but surely when you are losing you could try a different formation.

    we play better when we adjust to 4 -4 -2

    4 5 1 is boring and negative.. why defend it?

    I'd rather play 4-5-1 and win boringly instead of playing 4-4-2 and drawing 4 all

    Rubbish.....just rubbish !...make no mistake, we're a mediocre mid table team at best. No better than the likes of West Brom, Fulham, Wolves, Stoke ...etc...etc
    Glad I gave up my season ticket !

    because everyone plays 4-3-3 or a sort of formation like that, no one players 4-5-1 anymore its boring and predictable, we have been absolutly shocking like we are when teams come to park the bus, moyes hasnt a clue what to do.

    Yeah but we don't look like winning until we switch to 4-4-2!!! We don't win with the 4-5-1 formation.

    there is little to choose between most mid-order teams in the epl. they are all well organised by managers who know what they are doing. apart from the newcomers, i really dont think you can point to any particularly "weak" team.

    we struggle big time to break down teams who sit back and are well organised, we're just not good enough to consistently create chances by trying to play football through these teams, were also not good enough when these teams break on us, we nearly always concede a goal. last year we'd have drawn against wigan and be out the league cup but we've got a bit of luck this year so far and hopefully we can get some more confidence now and improve.

    bit worried about the upcoming city game but if anything we're more suited to this type of game, doing to city what teams like west brom do to us.

    WE DONT PLAY 4-5-1.

    West Brom played 4-5-1.

    We played 4-4-1-1.

    The difference being we play 2 infront of the back 4, WBA play 3, what happens when you lose the ball in their final 3rd?? They pick the ball up and over run you if your playing 4-4-2 on the counter attack cos of the 3 they play in front of the back 4, they can swamp you, this is why we dont play 4-4-2 imo...........

    The off-striker mid doesnt cover against the counter.  We sacrifice the ability to finish in exchange for... well.... hrm...  um.... uh... well cahill sure plays a lot.

    It was like we were playing for a draw last night because of the negative tactics. All we did was pass the ball left and right and I can't believe we scored two goals, and even that took of over 100 minutes.
