Home grown players

Why is it that home grown players never get the credit that they deserve? Osman and Hibbert are two examples of how some players can be overlook because they are home grown. Hibbert is a fantastic defender, he always has been yet some people have a go at him no matter what he does.

Osman is a terrific midfielder, and he doesn't get the praise he deserves. I think that Osman wasn't as good as normal yesterday but maybe that's just because he has been so good of late that we have became used to brilliant performances from the lad. He has great feet, he is hard working and he can do a bit of everything.

The only recent home grown player that the fans have not yet picked on. That's probably because he is 20 and he has a point to prove, and even though I think he is not playing to his full potential at this moment in time I think that the lad is quality. But how long before Rodwell can do no right?

I like both Hibbert and Ozzy, wasnt Ozzies best game yesterday mindst, but, they arnt robots at the end of the day. Thought Hibbert was solid and great delivery for Vellios' goal. I think people just tend to over look the home grown players because they havnt cost a massive fee, or they havn't got an exotic name etc.....if we had bought Ozzy and Hibbert 10 years ago for say 1million each, everyone would be saying what great buys they have been!

I don't know why it is, but its the same all the time. Osman and Hibbert are two fantastic players, they always have been yet even know some people have a go at Ossie and they ask why he's in the team for a start!

Ozzy (and people can shout me down) is from a  technical viewpoint one of our better players if not the best, he has great feet, makes chances and pops up when we need a goal, what more do you need from a midfielder??

The only thing that Ossie lacks is a bit of strength, but he can do everything else. He scores goals, he creates goals, he's good in the air, he works hard, he's a brilliant player.

Because hibbert is a liability ( at times) and osman isnt always the great midfielder he can be

Everyone makes mistakes, but when either of these two make them they get slated. Hibbert saved us again yesterday with what could of been a goal saving tackle, and even though Osman wasn't at his best yesterday, he has been terrific since the start of the year.

To be fair, Hibbert is prone to shocking runs of form. However, give him his due, past 2 games he's been quality. Was looking at the BBC before, and fully expected to see him in Garth Crook's team of the week. He chose the **** at Tottenham instead.

they have never been good enough on a consistent basis.  remember when everyone was saying osman and hibbert need to be sold??????

How many times has hibbert been ripped a new one over the years.  Chelsea fa cup final 2009 comet to mind as just one example.  He was so bad he had to be replaced at half time.

same with osman he has been consistent for a few games here and there but overall in his career hasnt been good enough.

Osman was pretty ropey for several years because he was played as a winger, last year and so far this year he has been a different animal and is looking to be one of our better players imo.

The FA cup final is the last time I can remember Tony Hibbert having a bad game, and to be fair to the lad, he was up against Ashley Cole.  Osman has been better than ever recently, but he has always been a good player. And since when was everyone saying Osman should be sold??

You're correct.  I never understood the sudden fall of hibbert based on what was essentially one bad game.  Chelsea had a matchup advantage one afternoon and expoited it well.  hibbert spends the next 2 years on the bench.

Young Rooney was Great, whatever happened to him? Steve McMahon too. Michael Ball etc etc I just hope Ross Barkley doesn't become another Rooney or McMahon.

Probably because they are first team players and should not be. the fans want us to move forward and progress, and we should have players by now to make these two good fringe players. The problems we had mean this isnt possible, and they unfortunately become scapegoats as a result.

Barcelona are a perfect example of the use of home grown players

    Victor Valdez
    Pique
    Cesc
    Puyol
    Xavi
    Iniesta
    Messi
    Thiago
and Busquets come through the Barcelona B team. Not bad IMO
