To early to get excited?

So, 4 games played, 7 points on the board.  A game in hand on liverpool and if we had played and beat spurs on the opening day could well be in 3rd.

Played ok yesterday without looking great but a couple of inspired subs showed what we could be capable of if the new lads gel quick and team selection / tactical subs have the desired effect as yesterdays did.

Could we surprise ourselves this season?

Well, a couple of wins and a draw every month and our patented strong finish we could be looking at a CL qualifiers place surely?

Same team as last year but Arteta out and Barkley in his place and Yak and Beckford gone with Vellios and Stracq in their place and Pienaar gone and Drenthe in his place.. I think we may have upgraded every one of the departed.
Time will tell but its looking good.

Agree with that. Arteta, although a great servant of the club seem to lack the cutting edge and vision he once showed and Barkley has the energy and hunger to succeed.

Vellios and Stracq look like they may form a good strong partnership provided Moyes allows them to play together.

Drenthe looks good all round, once he get's his confidence up he'll be terrorising right backs!

Any news on Felli signing a new contract?

As far as I can see, everyone has been quite positive on this thread apart from me! I think we will get beat next week though, that's just my opinion, but I hope I am wrong.

compared to the starts we've had in previous seasons this could be a good one. we've got a positive goal difference, not many clubs have, plus the loss of arteta doesnt seem to have made a difference.

in fact he's joined a club that will probably finish lower than us this season!

think we must stay realistic but there is no reason to believe we cant get a result at city. weve got a great record there and theyve drawn their last two games in all competitions. ive always wanted moyes to play two up top but i hope he plays just denis up top on his own against sh1tty with osman just behind. think we can nick a goal if we play like that and for gods sake lets start drenthe on the left and not billy. also i think its time to bring neville back in, hibbo looked alright but always looked like he could be exploited with a bit of pace, which city have alot of. 6 out of first 8 games are at home. and so far we have played QPR, sheffield united, Blackburn, villa and wigan.

If we had a decent striforce we could easily have maximum points right now.

Or lost all of them, these sort of teams gave us problems last season, its the big boys we did well against. Its not the strikers that are the problem, its making the chances for them, if we had a decent creative midfielder that could split apart an 8 man defence we may of beaten them.

Try look on the bright side

We've won 3 of those 5 games and the fact that we should have also won the other 2 is actually a good thing! It means we're not gone completely shitee just coz Stoke, WBA etc spent money this past Summer and we didn't - as so many on here were trying to say!

When you think about it, bar the Blackburn game, every team has scored almost every decent chance against they've made on us this season. So we have things to work on in defense, midfield and up front. We're not perfect anywhere. But we're doing well even if it could be better!

I actually think we have a lot of creativity in the midfield - just no chemistry.  There were several creative ideas vs Wigan that were wasted because the team isnt on the same page.  This was the case when Arteta was here and it's why we start slow every year.

It's also my biggest frustration with Bily.  If you watch him play you can see what he is trying to do, but he doesnt get on the same page as his teammates and he give the ball away.  I cant tell if it's him or a lack of playing time, but it's a shame.

If we can get a decent amount of points from the next 5 games (say 7-9 points) we will be in a good position for the rest of the season as we are traditionally a team that really picks up after the new year.

We have a difficult February and half of march, but between October and then we should be quite confident of taking a lot of points.

The more the new lads play, the more they'll click and the better the performances should get. We've just gotta hope we don't get our **** handed to us over the next few weeks (although I'm quietly confident we can get 9 points from the next 15)

A decent start...need to keep it up. Let's catch a few teams sleeping. I like how the young kids are playing.
