A Lot of Work to do After That!

Our play in the final third was so poor. Hibberts cross for Vellios' goal was almost the only decent final ball we delivered all day. Really impressed with Hibbert today. Wigan really tightened up after half time and we created so little from then.

Not happy with our defending either and Roberto Manchini was watching us and must have felt fairly good about his sides chances of getting goals next weekend. The back 4 needs better protection. Rodwell needs to sort himself out altho he did play further forward some of the time with Fellaini dropping deeper at times. He's looking a long way from the Steven Gerrard type player we all hoped he will become (and I still do)

Bily was the same as against Villa - uninterested after 20 minutes.

Coleman wasn't as involved as against Villa. Needs to use that pace to get behind opposing left backs more - but needs some pace coming from the left (Drenthe) or thru the middle (Velios?) to offer him a ball to deliver

Fellaini - I get so annoyed at how easy it is for referees to book him. He's trying to jump out of a players path after the ball is gone and he gets booked for it. Decent performance altho I'd like to have seen him pushed up a bit.

Baines - Mr. Consistently brilliant going forward

Jagielka - Continues to rise to the arm band - his form seems to be back (touch wood)

Cahill - I would drop him soon - but he has such a good record against Man City, I would deffo play him against them (but deeper) where we need to set oursleves up to be physically imposing.

    The subs:

Need to see more of the Argie - I've seen some comments here about how good he is but I'm not prepared to make any judgement on the basis of 10 minutes of a game where we went ahead before he'd touched the ball.

Drenthe - A younger faster Pienaar. Excited about him and his passion!

Vellios, - What a header, and has good ball control but needs to have better awareness - their may be a question about his temprement - we'll see a lot more of him over this season to judge.

THOUGHT WE PUT A FEW OTHER CROSSES IN THAT WERE DECENT ! THOUGH SOMETIMES WE DO JUST HIT IT INTO THE BOX AND HOPE RATHER THAN PUTTING DECENT CROSSES IN !

OSSY DID WELL IN 1ST HALF FROM ME BUT FADED 2ND HALF ( IN FAIRNESS MOST DID )

ALSO THOUGHT CAHILL DID A DECENT ENOUGH JOB UPFRONT ! HE'S NOT A STRIKER THO HES USED AS A BATTERING RAM SORT OF THING AND BRING OTHERS IN PLAY RATHER THAN LOOKING TO SCORE LIKE A TRUE STRIKER !

VELLIOS LOOKS LIKE A CHEAPER BETTER ANDY CARROL TO ME ! NOT SURE WHERE YOU GET HIS DODGEY TEMPERAMENT  THING FROM THO ? FROM HIS INTERVIEWS I'VE SEEN HE COMES ACROSS AS EDUCATED ( NOT THE USUAL THICK FOOTBALLER ) AND ENTHUSIASTIC !

AS YOU SAY DRENTHE A MORE YOUNGER FASTER PASSIONATE PIENARR BUT WITH AN EYE FOR A GOAL TOO ! HE BLOOMIN LOVED HIS GOAL TODAY DIDNT HE ? AND EVEN AT THE FINAL WHISTLE HE WAS SO HAPPY !

Thought most players were decent today, thought Billy had some good moments but doesn't look likely to open too many defences up.. Needs a run of games to get match fit but as of yet has not had that.
Jags was good, did some great sliding tackles, likewise Hibbert, surprised you didn't rate Cahill, he was everywhere, ran their defence ragged, hit the bar for Jags goal, only thing he did wrong all game for me - apart from about 20mins where everyone on the pitch went lame - was to inadvertently block Felli's shot.

Howdy, Stranger!
